After the American Basketball Association (ABA) announced last year it would add the Solano Stallions to the lineup of teams competing in the Far West Division, the Stallions recruited their current roster, most of whom are Solano County products.

Andre Chilton, a 22-year United States Air Force veteran, is heading the organization’s basketball operations and is eager to lead the Stallions into a successful first season. After returning to the U.S. in 2013, Chilton served as assistant head coach at Jesse Bethel High School before coaching college basketball at California State Maritime Academy.

“I’m happy with our progress,” Chilton said. “We are focusing on building a great organization and producing great basketball.”

Chilton played point guard for Macon College in Georgia. He played overseas for a slew of selective all-star military squads and competed in German and Italian semi-pro leagues. He de

cided to take up the coaching mantle in 2003 and led the Ramstein Rams in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Chilton later started training

players in Okinawa, Japan.

Chilton founded NoTime2Chill Skills Academy in 2016 to help elevate players’ games to the next level and noticed the lack of pro opportunities in the Solano County area.

“I had players who were looking to compete on a

professional level,” Chilton said. “The Solano Stallions will provide that outlet for players aspiring to a professional basketball career. We want to develop players and give them the opportunity to advance to the next level.”

The Stallions played the Contra Costa Delta Stars

on Nov. 17 before their first home game against the topranked ABA team in the nation, the San Francisco City Cats, at Will C. Wood High School on Nov. 24.
