Solano’s Del Rio named MVP of Bay Valley Conference

The Solano College women’s volleyball team was well represente­d in the Bay Valley Conference awards as well as all-league teams announced Sunday.

The MVP of the league went to Haley Del Rio. Del Rio led the BVC in kills per set with 4.8, was second in kills with 174, and was second in hitting percentage with .401. She was a six-rotation player at Solano who never came off the court. She added 119 digs in conference and 239 digs overall.

First-team honors went to both Lindsey McLaughlin and Kayla Somontan. McLaughlin led the BVC in hitting percentage at .459, blocks per set at 1.10, and was second in the BVC in aces per set at .77. She led the team with 67 aces overall.

Somontan led the team with 316 assists in league and overall 673 assists. She is second in the BVC Kayla is a strong defensive player with 142 digs overall.

Second-team honors to both Allora Somontan and Ixchel Moreno. Allora Somontan led with team in aces for the BVC with 43 (overall she has 56 aces), breaking a 2002 record set with her 17 aces in an October match. She was a tough defensive player with 141 digs.

Ixchel Moreno was the team’s libero was one of the Falcons’ top servers with 94 percent serving, and added 233 digs overall.

Darla Williams, the head coach of Solano, was named Coach of the Year.

Men’s basketball

Cal Maritime 91, New Hope Christian 62

The Cal Maritime men’s basketball team defeated New Hope Christian 91-62 on the road Sunday.

Josh Hauser led the Keelhauler­s with 21 points and four rebounds. Zavier Lucero had 20 points and 16 boards, while freshman Divine Nwoko had 11 points and eight rebounds. Trey Porter contribute­d with 12 points and four rebounds.

The Keelhauler­s, who improved to 5-1 on the season with the victory, are at home on Wednesday, Nov. 20 against Menlo.

Girls tennis

Benicia doubles team falls in North Coast Section playoffs

The Benicia High doubles team of Juliana Valenicia and Ashley Ko lost in the first round of the North Coast Section doubles tournament on Monday.

Valencia and Ko lost to Amador Valley’s Kaitlyn Peng and Kruthika Gowda 6-0, 6-0. Amador Valley is the No. 4 seed in the bracket.

Men’s soccer

Fluitt named allleague for Wildcats

Chico State senior Alex Fluitt, a 2015 Benicia High grad, was named to the 2019 All-California Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n team recently.

Fluitt, a 6-foot-5, 175-pound senior midfielder, has two goals and four assists for the Wildcats, bringing his career assist total to 12, which makes him the program’s active career leader. He has played in 16 games, eight starts and has played 858 minutes his senior season.

Chico State is currently 12-5-0 overall.
