A right to know
An open letter to the Vallejo City Council:
I have been a resident and citizen of this community since 1981. As a citizen I believe it is my to be given full factual disclosure as to the situation as it pertains to the Mare Island Preserve, previously operated by Myrna Hayes. Please reply to this request with all the available information.
On Tuesday, Dec. 3, every Solano County resident will have an opportunity to support a number of local nonprofits by logging on to www. GiveLocalSolano.org.
Give Local Solano is a 24hour, online giving event organized by the Solano Community Foundation to support nonprofits and help build a culture of philanthropy in Solano County. Give Local Solano (“GLS”) is held on the first Tuesday following Thanksgiving Day. This year, that day falls on Dec. 3 from 12:01 a.m. through midnight.
GLS is held in conjunction with #Giving Tuesday, the global day of giving.
Anyone can make a donation to a registered nonprofit on the www.GiveLocalSolano. org website. You do not have to live in Solano County to donate, but all the participating nonprofits are located in and providing services to Solano County residents. The website is pretty exciting! There are categories for giving, such as “Animals and Wildlife,” “Arts and Culture,” “The Environment,” “Housing and Homelessness,” among many others. Participating nonprofits have a donation (profile) page where you can choose the amount you want to donate and fill in the donation form. Of course, you can donate to as many “angels” as you want and give whatever you want, and it is 100 percent tax-deductible since it is a charitable gift.
As for me, my category for donation will be “The Environment,” which offers choices of three nonprofits: The Benicia Tree Foundation, the Solano Land Trust and Sustainable Solano. I will choose Benicia Tree Foundation, as I live in Benicia and love trees and greening the town!
Regardless of what you choose, this is such a great opportunity to build a stronger and better community and enhance the quality of life through good nonprofits that make deep and lasting impacts. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3, and have fun being a philanthropist to one (or more) excellent nonprofits doing work in our own town and county.
