Vallejo part of power outage on Monday

- Times-Herald staff report

Vallejo was part of a power outage that began at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Monday.

According to PG&E’s website and map the outage occurred as far east as just west of Amador Street and as far west as just east of Trinity Street. The outage continued as far north as just south of Tennessee Street and as far south as Georgia Street.

The restoration time originally was 4:45 p.m. and then changed to 5:30 p.m. according to the website. PG&E stated at just past 2:20 p.m. that it was investigating the cause of the outage assessing the cause at the outage location. The power eventually came back on in the affected area at approximately 4 p.m., about 90 minutes ahead of schedule.

Bay Area News Group reporter John Woolfolk reported earlier in the day that for the nearly 1 million customers who were inconvenienced by PG&E’s first massive planned power outage in Oc

tober, the check is in the mail this month. More precisely, a credit should have showed up on November utility bills.

But don’t get used to those credits. PG&E said this week the credit it gave customers who lost power

in the chaotic Oct. 9 public safety wildfire-prevention shutoff that blacked out much of the Bay Area was a one-time only deal: $100 for residential and $250 for commercial customers.

The embattled utility does not plan to refund customers who lost power in the Oct. 23, 26, 29 and Nov. 20 shutoffs, which state regulators are investigating whether they

met requirements to shut down power only as a last resort and to as few customers as possible.

Kathleen Caldwell, owner of A Great Good Place for Books in Oakland’s Montclair neighborhood, estimates that two power shutoffs that blacked out her store for four days late last month cost her some $6,000 to $8,000 in lost business. She hasn’t

seen a bill credit.

“We’ll have to work twice as hard over the holiday season to make up for what we lost,” Caldwell said. “I think they should be doing refunds for all of it. I know a lot of other people who lost a lot more than I did.”
