Solano Col­lege women’s soc­cer play­ers hon­ored with awards

For the sec­ond straight year, Solano Com­mu­nity Col­lege soc­cer’s Kirstyn Gotschall, a Va­cav­ille High grad, has been named Goal­keeper of the Year for the Bay Val­ley Con­fer­ence.

Team­mate Is­abella Kelly-Fon­der­smith is the Mid­fielder of the Year.

Join­ing those two on the first-team all-con­fer­ence squad for Solano are Will C. Wood grads Brooke Molina, a sopho­more de­fender, and sopho­more for­ward Is­abel Olmedo, as well as Va­cav­ille High prod­uct Karla Car­di­nal, a sopho­more mid­fielder.

Sec­ond-team all-con­fer­ence Fal­cons are sopho­more de­fender Melinda Rashid­ian, sopho­more mid­fielder and Va­cav­ille High grad Grace Lee and fresh­man de­fender Sa­ma­rah Hen­dricks, a Wood alum.

Gotschall recorded 25 saves in a 0-0 tie with Los Medanos and 24 saves in a dou­ble-over­time 2-1 loss to Reed­ley in the CCCAA Re­gional Play-in Round. In her two years at Solano, she started in goal in all 38 games, record­ing 17 shutouts.

Kelly-Fon­der­smith is a hold­ing de­fen­sive mid­fielder, yet still had three as­sists and seven goals this sea­son, many of the goals long-range bombs, in­clud­ing the lone score against Reed­ley.

Olmedo ended her twoyear Solano ca­reer with 32 goals and 12 as­sists. Car­di­nal com­piled 38 as­sists in two years. Lee, the cen­ter mid­fielder, scored three goals and had eight as­sists this year.

Girls bas­ket­ball

Amer­i­can Canyon 67, Con­cord 48

The Amer­i­can Canyon girls bas­ket­ball team de­feated Con­cord 67-48 on Tues­day night.

The win was in a Foun­da­tion Game for the Wolves (0-2) so it doesn’t count for their record but all the gate re­ceipts go to­ward a schol­ar­ship.

Amer­i­can Canyon’s next game is Satur­day against Ar­mijo.

Boys bas­ket­ball

Vin­tage 53, Bethel 42

The Bethel High boys bas­ket­ball team lost to Vin­tage 53-42 on Tues­day in a Foun­da­tion Game.

The Foun­da­tion Game doesn’t count to­ward the Jaguars record but all the gate re­ceipts are for a schol­ar­ship.

Boys soc­cer

Vallejo 3, Fairfield 1

The Vallejo High boys soc­cer team de­feated Fairfield 3-1 on Tues­day night in the rain at Cor­bus Field.

Ethan Lara scored two goals for Vallejo, while Guadalupe Sanchez scored the other goal for the Red­hawks.

The Red­hawks moved to 2-0-3 with the win. They play Mon­day against Justin-Siena at Cor­bus Field.

Will C. Wood 0

The Bethel High boys soc­cer team de­feated Will C. Wood 4-0 Tues­day night in non­league ac­tion. Bethel scored three goals in the first half and never looked back in the win.

The Jaguars im­proved to 4-0 on the sea­son with the win.
