Solano College women’s soccer players honored with awards

For the second straight year, Solano Community College soccer’s Kirstyn Gotschall, a Vacaville High grad, has been named Goalkeeper of the Year for the Bay Valley Conference.

Teammate Isabella Kelly-Fondersmit­h is the Midfielder of the Year.

Joining those two on the first-team all-conference squad for Solano are Will C. Wood grads Brooke Molina, a sophomore defender, and sophomore forward Isabel Olmedo, as well as Vacaville High product Karla Cardinal, a sophomore midfielder.

Second-team all-conference Falcons are sophomore defender Melinda Rashidian, sophomore midfielder and Vacaville High grad Grace Lee and freshman defender Samarah Hendricks, a Wood alum.

Gotschall recorded 25 saves in a 0-0 tie with Los Medanos and 24 saves in a double-overtime 2-1 loss to Reedley in the CCCAA Regional Play-in Round. In her two years at Solano, she started in goal in all 38 games, recording 17 shutouts.

Kelly-Fondersmit­h is a holding defensive midfielder, yet still had three assists and seven goals this season, many of the goals long-range bombs, including the lone score against Reedley.

Olmedo ended her twoyear Solano career with 32 goals and 12 assists. Cardinal compiled 38 assists in two years. Lee, the center midfielder, scored three goals and had eight assists this year.

Girls basketball

American Canyon 67, Concord 48

The American Canyon girls basketball team defeated Concord 67-48 on Tuesday night.

The win was in a Foundation Game for the Wolves (0-2) so it doesn’t count for their record but all the gate receipts go toward a scholarshi­p.

American Canyon’s next game is Saturday against Armijo.

Boys basketball

Vintage 53, Bethel 42

The Bethel High boys basketball team lost to Vintage 53-42 on Tuesday in a Foundation Game.

The Foundation Game doesn’t count toward the Jaguars record but all the gate receipts are for a scholarshi­p.

Bethel plays Fairfield on

Saturday.

Boys soccer

Vallejo 3, Fairfield 1

The Vallejo High boys soccer team defeated Fairfield 3-1 on Tuesday night in the rain at Corbus Field.

Ethan Lara scored two goals for Vallejo, while Guadalupe Sanchez scored the other goal for the Redhawks.

The Redhawks moved to 2-0-3 with the win. They play Monday against Justin-Siena at Corbus Field.

Bethel 4,

Will C. Wood 0

The Bethel High boys soccer team defeated Will C. Wood 4-0 Tuesday night in nonleague action. Bethel scored three goals in the first half and never looked back in the win.

The Jaguars improved to 4-0 on the season with the win.
