Vallejo wrestlers do well at separate tournament­s

The Vallejo High wrestling team competed in two separate tournament­s over the weekend and had good performanc­es.

The varsity boys competed at Brittney David Invitation­al at Liberty High School. Adam Jaleel (170 pounds) placed sixth, while Khwaja Abdurrehma­n (113) placed seventh.

The girls competed at the 17th Annual Castro Valley Girls Wrestling Tournament, hosted by Castro Valley High.

Maylin Reyes and Jennifer Gonzalez won the tournament in their weight classes. Reyes (111 pounds) went 4-0 while Gonzalez (108) competed in the JV bracket and went 3-0.

Wolves in Pinole, Liberty

The American Canyon wrestling program competed at the Xmas Classic at Pinole Valley High School on Saturday as the Wolves took fourth place with four finalists taking second place.

Runner-ups were Roman Gamboa (113), Elijah Beronilla (126), Kapono Liu (160) and Jesse Lopez (170). Taking fourth place was James Aken (220) with Nathaniel Wills (220) finishing eighth.

The American Canyon girls competed at the Brittany David Girls Tournament held at Liberty High. Emma Lopez (189) represente­d the Wolves with a fourth-place finish.

Panthers at West Coast TOC

The Benicia High girls wrestling team fared well at the West Coast Tournament of Champions in Rocklin.

The Panthers finished ninth as a team with Mia Bonotan as the highest placer, taking second. Janessa Abisia finished fifth and Liv Contreras taking sixth.

On the JV side, Gwen Reynolds took first. Gabby Jones and Katelynn Sappington each took second. Marie Markus, Cassandra Pierson and Eliza Torres each grabbed third.

Vallejo 57, De Anza 28

The Vallejo High girls basketball team defeated De Anza 57-28 on Friday.

Daniella Tenorio had 24 points, nine assists and 10 steals. Jada Hunter had 10 points, 10 assists, 10 steals and 10 rebounds.

Vallejo improved to 5-8, 2-1 in the Tri-County Athletic League.
