Misner hired as city’s new director
BENICIA >> Longtime planning professional Brad Misner has been hired as the city’s new community development director, City Manager Lorie Tinfow announced.
Starting on Jan. 27, Misner’s tasks will include overseeing the Community Development Department which handles the planning, and building departments, along with housing and sustainability.
“Mr. Misner’s experience is a great match for our current efforts related to economic development and responding to the housing crisis,” Tinfow said in a news release from her office. “His pas
sions for customer service and for staff development are highly aligned with our needs. I’m thrilled that he will be joining the team!”
Misner has over 20 years of experience in urban planning. He currently
serves as community development director with the city of Millbrae, joining the city early last year. Prior to that he was the director of planning and neighborhood services with the city of Milpitas.
Misner was hired by the city of Santa Monica as an assistant planner in 1997. He moved up to principal
planner, helping to oversee Santa Monica’s commercial and residential development.
“He also supervised negotiations on several development agreement applications for hotels, a car dealership and several mixed-used, urban in-fill projects ranging from new high rise and low-rise residential, hotel,
and commercial developments,” the same release states about Misner’s accomplishments.
Misner has a bachelor’s degree in geography and group social science from Western Michigan University and he received the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification in 2001.
He will earn $160,892
in an annual base salary, Tinfow confirmed in a follow-up. Benicia’s assistant city manager, Alan Shear, has been serving as the interim director.
Misner lives in Danville with this wife and daughter.
