Vallejo High girls basketball team beats Overfelt, 35-15

The Vallejo High School girls basketball team beat Overfelt of San Jose 35-15 on Friday in nonleague play in Pittsburg.

Bryele Wallace had 10 points, 10 boards and nine blocks for the Redhawks, who are now 6-8 overall. Ja’Chey Hunter had six assists.

Vallejo hosts Kennedy at home on Tuesday back in Tri-County Athletic League Stone Division play.

Boys basketball

American Canyon 54, Justin-Siena 49

The American Canyon High boys basketball team knocked off Justin-Siena, 54-49, on Friday in the Vine Valley Athletic League opener for both schools.

The Wolves (5-6, 1-0) trailed 14-8 after a quarter but a dominant 38-28 second half turned the game in their favor. The Braves dropped to 6-7 overall, 0-1 in league play.

American Canyon takes on Casa Grande on Friday.

Napa 37,

American Canyon 31

The American Canyon High varsity wrestling team lost league dual 37-31 at home to visiting Napa on Thursday.

There were a few intense matchups against the Grizzlies in each weight class that could of went either way. Scoring for the Wolves were Devin Garingarao (134 pounds), Jesse Lopez (170), James Aken (220), Mekhai Sta Rosa (106), Roman Gamboa (113) and Zakary Raymond (120).

The Wolves JV team lost 28-27. Top performers were Joseph Biondini (138), Antonio Blanco (182), Josiah Salazar (106) and Keanu Kawakami (120).

American Canyon’s varsity girls won their matchup 6-0. Competing for the Wolves were Amaya Maulino (106), Mylene Fransisco (116), Telorah Kawakami (131), Sophia Rapacon (138) and Emma Lopez (180).

Girls soccer

American Canyon 1, Justin-Siena 0

The American Canyon High girls soccer team held off Justin-Siena 1-0 on Friday in a Vine Valley Athletic League opener at Wolf Den Stadium.

The Wolves made it 1-0 in the first half on senior’s Christin Locke’s goal. Greta Fast had the shutout in goal for American Canyon, which improved to 5-4-2 overall.

The Braves dropped to 3-2-1 overall.

American Canyon is Casa Grande on Friday.
