AmCan wrestler first at Jaguar Classic

The American Canyon High wrestling team was active over the weekend.

Emma Lopez (189 pounds) took first place in Jaguar Classic at Jesse Bethel High School on Saturday. She went 3-0, pinning all her opponents, including the number one seed to take championsh­ip honors.

Other top performers at Bethel were Amaya Maulino (106), who took sixth place and Sophia Rapacon (137) who took seventh.

The American Canyon boys wrestled in the King of the Mat in Windsor with top placers Devin Garingarao (134), Kyle Racel (172) and Toby Bunch (285) all taking fifth place. Also scoring for Wolves were Kapono Li (162) and Jesse Lopez (172), who both took seventh.

Boys basketball

Bruins drop two games

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High boys basketball team fell to Folsom 69-66 on Saturday in the Adidas Challenge at Sheldon High. The Bruins then lost to Damien of La Verne, 79-60 in a game at St. Mary’s College in Moraga on Monday.

On Saturday, Jaden Alexander finished with 25 points on 10 of 16 shooting and added nine rebounds for the Bruins (12-7). Jalen Scott had 12 points and three steals and Noah Franklin had 11 points.

On Monday, Dishon Jackson had 17 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks for St. Pat’s. Alexander had 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Scott had 13 points.

St. Pat’s is at De Anza on Wednesday.

Pleasant Grove 50, Benicia 42

The Benicia High School boys basketball team fell to Pleasant Grove of Elk Grove, 50-42, on Saturday in the Adidas Challenge at Sheldon High.

Gavin Lane finished with 20 points for the Panthers, who fell to 6-10 overall.

Benicia is back in league action on Tuesday against Alhambra.

Girls basketball

South Medford 76, St. Pat’s 50

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls basketball team fell to South Medford (Ore.) 76-50 on Monday at the MLK Challenge at St. Mary’s College in Moraga.

The Bruins, who dropped to 10-6 overall, host El Cerrito on Wednesday.

Bethel 52, Tennyson 30

The Bethel High School girls basketball team beat Tennyson of Hayward, 5230 on Saturday in the MLK Invitation­al in Pittsburg.

The Jaguars (13-5) led 21-16 at halftime.

Bethel is back in action on Friday against El Cerrito.

Men’s basketball

UC Merced 66, Cal Maritime 59

The Cal Maritime men’s basketball team fell to host UC Merced 66-59 on Saturday in California Pacific Conference play.

Zavier Lucero finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and three assists for the Keelhauler­s (14-5, 2-3). Cetrick Yearnay had 10 points and Kaden Young added nine points on three 3-pointers. Josh Hauser had eight points.

Cal Maritime shot 41.8 percent from the floor and was just 7 of 23 from 3-point land.

Ryan Haywood had 18 points to lead UC Merced (11-6, 3-2).

The Keelhauler­s are back in action on Thursday at Benedictin­e.

Women’s basketball

Merced 63,

Cal Maritime 48

The Cal Maritime women’s basketball team fell to host UC Merced 63-48 on Saturday in California Pacific Conference play.

The Keelhauler­s were led by Kim Masulit, who had 12 points. Tyra Fai’malo had 10 rebounds and Kameron Taylor added five rebounds and three assists.

Mia Belvin had a gamehigh 19 points for UC Merced.

Cal Maritime (4-15, 2-3) is back in action on Thursday at Benedictin­e.

Youth softball

Sign-ups in January

Vallejo PAL will be having fastpitch softball and T-Ball sign-ups on the following dates in January — Wednesdays Jan. 22 and 29 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Thursdays Jan. 23 and 30 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday Jan. 25 and Sunday Jan. 26 from 10:30 a.m. until noon.

T-Ball is open to boys and girls, ages 4 to 7. Softball is open to girls, ages 7-12.

Registrati­on fees are $100 with candy sales and $130 without candy sales.

Bring a child’s medical card or birth certificat­e for age verificati­on.

Registrati­on will be held at the Vallejo PAL Office, 301 Wallace Ave.
