St. Pat’s High boys basketball team knocks off De Anza

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High boys basketball team beat host De Anza 7844 on Wednesday in TriCounty Athletic League Rock Division play.

Jalen Scott finished with 17 points on 6 of 16 shooting and added four assists and three steals for the Bruins. He had three 3-pointers as well.

Dishon Jackson had 17 points and 13 boards and Jaden Alexander had 13 points (6 of 10 shooting) and added nine rebounds. Tariq Johnson had 11 points, three 3-pointers, five boards and three steals, and Esai Contreras added eight points and five assists.

The Bruins (13-7, 4-1) host El Cerrito on Friday and then play Weston Ranch at the Crush in the Valley event on Saturday.

De Anza dropped to 14-4 overall, 2-3 in league play.

Sonoma Valley 75, American Canyon 70

The American Canyon High School boys basketball team lost to Sonoma

Valley 75-70 on Wednesday in Vine Valley Athletic League play.

The Wolves faced a 10-point deficit with just over 4 minutes remaining and stormed back to take a 62-59 lead with 50 seconds left. Anders Mattison of Sonoma Valley (13 points) drained a 3-pointer to tie the game with 25 ticks to play.

The Wolves were unable to get a shot off at the buzzer and the game was headed to overtime where they were outscored 13-8 in the period.

Gabriel Patrick had his finest game of the season for the Wolves (7-9, 2-3), scoring 21 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Oliver Aandahl added 22 points and Noah Simmons scored 14.

“This was our sixth loss of the season that came at the buzzer,” American Canyon coach Scott Hayburn said. “The cumulative weight of these defeats is testing our teams resolve and togetherne­ss and it’s making us stronger people. At the end of the day that’s why we play — we improve as young men and prepare for the hard work and commitment life requires to be successful.”

Wrestling

Benicia defeats Acalanes, Clayton Valley at dual meet

The Benicia High wrestling team routed Acalanes and then won a thrilling match with Clayton Valley Wednesday night at College Park in a Diablo Valley Athletic League dual meet.

The Panthers improved to 6-1 in dual meets on the year with the two wins.

Benicia defeated a young Acalanes team 76-6, but then had a tight match with Clayton Valley, winning 36-24. The contest was close late, but big firstround pins by Panther 195-pounder Liam Rippe and 220-pounder George Marshall helped secure the victory.

Benicia is at Clovis this weekend for a state dual meet.

Girls Soccer

Sonoma Valley 3, American Canyon 0

The American Canyon girls soccer team lost to Sonoma Valley 3-0 at home on

Wednesday night.

The Wolves’ loss dropped their record to 6-7-2 overall and 2-3 in the Vine Valley Athletic League.

American Canyon’s next game is Friday at Vintage.

The Benicia High School girls soccer team edged Concord 1-0 on Wednesday in Diablo Athletic League play.

The Panthers (9-2-3, 5-01) scored the game’s only goal in the second half as Olivia Kamm’s goal.

Benicia is back in action Friday at Campolindo.

Boys Soccer

Concord 2, Benicia 1

The Benicia High School boys soccer team was edged by Concord 2-1 on Wednesday in Diablo Athletic League play.

The Panthers (4-4-3, 3-21) led 1-0 at halftime after Mason Donabedian played a lofted ball to Wyatt Fry and Fry knocked the ball past the Concord goalie.

Benicia is back in action on Friday when it hosts Campolindo at Drolette Stadium.
