Benicia changes online utility payment system

-

If residents pay their utility bill online there will be a change coming in May, officials announced.

BENICIA >> If residents pay their utility (water and sewer) bill online or have called the city of Benicia’s Finance Department to pay via credit card or e-check, there will be a change coming in May, officials announced.

Benicia will be changing to a utility billing system which requires a change of our credit card processing company, City Hall explained.

“Because the city does not retain your credit card or echeck information, when the new system goes live, the old system will deactivate and your payment data will no longer be available to the city,” they said. “What this means to you is that you will need to enter your online payment information in the new system in order to have your payment credited in a timely manner.”

Officials said they’ve seen an increase in the need to update credit card information for a variety of reasons including card expiration, unexpected issuance of a new card for security reasons, or changing to a new card.

“As the effective date nears, we will send letters and detailed instructions to all customers and engage in a broader notification campaign. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience,” they said. “We expect you will find navigating through the new online utility payment system to be much easier.”
