Laila Ibrahim to give talk at Bookshop Benicia

- Times-Herald staff report

BENICIA >> Author Laila Ibrahim is scheduled to speak at Bookshop Benicia next month about her journey as a novelist.

The talk is from 3 to 5 p.m., March 1, inside Bookshop Benicia, 636 First Street, in downtown Benicia.

Ibrahim is the author of five novels, all bestsellers through Amazon, according to a press release. She spent much of her career as a preschool director, a birth doula, and a religious educator. That work, coupled with her education in developmental psychology and attachment theory, provided ample fodder for the story lines of her bestselling novels: “Paper Wife,” “Mustard Seed,” and “Yellow Crocus.”

“I’m a devout Unitarian Universalist, determined to do my part to add a little more love and justice to our beautiful and painful world,” Ibrahim said in a statement from the same release.

She lives with her wife, Rinda, and two other families in a small cohousing community in Berkeley. When she isn’t writing, she likes to take walks with friends, do jigsaw puzzles, play games, work in the garden, travel, cook, and eat all kinds of delicious food, the same release states.

The event is presented by the Benicia Public Library and Bookshop Benicia.

“We are very glad to be collaborating with our longtime partner, Bookshop Benicia, to bring this event to town,” said David Dodd, director of Library and Cultural Services, in the press release. “Bookstores, particularly independent bookstores, are the natural ally of public libraries, and we hope to reinforce our mutual mission of literacy through events like this one with Laila Ibrahim.”
