A woman was seriously injured Wednesday night in a case of domestic violence in Cordelia.

On Thursday afternoon, a SWAT team returned to the home and engaged with her alleged attacker, who barricaded himself in the residence for hours.

As of 6:30 p.m. — despite the deployment of flash bangs, a drone and the Bearcat, the Police Department’s armored protection vehicle — the situation appeared no closer to closure.

The situation began around 8 p.m. Wednesday when officers arrived at a Brittany Drive home.

They found a woman with major head injuries and subsequently transported her to a local hospital. Her condition was unavailable Thursday.

The suspect, Adam Perez, 26, was barricaded in a bedroom, Fairfield police Lt. Jausiah Jacobsen said. At some point, the officers elected to leave the home.

The pair appear to be family members, Jacobsen said.

On Thursday, family members showed up at the residence to retrieve items and asked police for help. They informed police that the suspect was still inside.

“There had been some concerns,” Jacobsen advised. “He’s made some threats to the family, so they didn’t want to go back in.”

Officers were called in just after 1 p.m. and came armed with the Bearcat.

Due to the crimes that had been committed, investigators also obtained an arrest warrant for Perez and a search warrant for the home.

During the multi-hour standoff, SWAT members were poised in front of the home as announcements were broadcast urging the suspect to surrender.

Police were unsuccessful in making contact with the suspect.

“Numerous attempts have been made to contact him by phone and over the PA (system) but he has been unresponsive,” the lieutenant said.

By 6:30 p.m., police had lobbed another flash bang and began making entry into the dwelling.

Perez was confirmed to be in the residence, Jacobsen said, as officers could see him moving around. He just wasn’t responding to police.

Once in custody, Perez is slated to be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, battery causing great bodily injury and making criminal threats.
