Vallejo High girls basketball edges Hercules in TCAL playoffs

The Vallejo High School girls basketball team beat host Hercules 57-56 on Wednesday in a thriller in the Tri-County Athletic League Stone Division playoffs

The game was close throughout but the No. 5-seeded Redhawks (9-17) fought through adversity and pulled out the dramatic win over the No. 4 Titans (5-21).

Bryell Wallace had a huge game as she carried the team on her back down the stretch. She had 13 points and 10 rebounds and six key blocks.

Freshman Jada Hunter dropped 16 points and added eight assists and three steals. Team captain Daneilla Tenorio has 12 points and six steals to seal the deal as Vallejo moved on to play No. 2 Kennedy in the next round on Thursday.

Sonoma Valley 50, American Canyon 38

The American Canyon High girls basketball team fell to Sonoma Valley 50-38 on Tuesday in Vine Valley Athletic League play.

Trinity Billingsle­y had 12 points, Jazmine Fontilla had eight while Cameron Genteroy and Amaree Bennett both chipped in seven for the Wolves (9-17, 2-9).

American Canyon won 35-30 in the junior varsity contest.

The Wolves’ final competitio­n of the season will be on Thursday against Vintage.

Benicia 73,

Berean Christian 34

The Benicia High School girls basketball team blew out Berean Christian 73-34 on Wednesday in the Diablo Athletic League finale.

The Panthers led 28-8 after a quarter.

Nyla Priestly had 17 points and five steals, and Peyton Holcomb added 14 points and seven boards for the Panthers (13-13, 7-3). Bailey McLaughlin had five rebounds and four assists, and Frankie Soto had four assists.

Boys basketball

American Canyon 72, Sonoma Valley 62

The red-hot American Canyon High boys basketball team knocked off Sonoma Valley 72-62 on Wednesday in Vine Valley Athletic League play. Two weeks ago, the Wolves lost a heartbreak­er in overtime to the same Dragons.

The four-game win streak and 11-5 stretch they are in has the Wolves (12-10, 7-4) back in the North Coast Section Division II playoff picture.

Senior Oliver Aandahl scored a game high 29 points on 10 of 18 shooting. He was 5 of 9 from 3-point land. Junior Noah Simmons added 14 and sophomore Khai Curry had 10 in addition to outstandin­g suffocatin­g defense all night. Junior Gabriel Patrick hauled in 10 rebounds.

“I’m unbelievab­ly proud of the fight I’ve seen from this team since the rough start to this season,” American Canyon coach Scott Hayburn said. “Nothing has been easy and tonight was no exception. It feels like every game we have to scratch and claw for everything and in the end it makes wins like this very satisfying. However, we still have so much work still to do. We play the champs (Vintage) on Friday and then we’ll see what’s next for us.”

Kennedy 72, Bethel 69

The Bethel High School boys basketball team lost to host Kennedy 72-69 in the Tri-County Athletic League Stone Division playoffs.

The Jaguars trailed just 33-32 at halftime but Bethel led 50-48 after three quarters in a tight battle.

Michael Anderson had 22 points to lead the Jaguars. Mathew Elliott and Khalil Brown both had 17 points.

Bethel concluded the regular season with an 11-17 overall mark.

Girls soccer

Las Lomas 1, Benicia 0

The Benicia High School girls soccer team fell to Las Lomas 1-0 on Wednesday in the Diablo Athletic League finale.

Las Lomas scored the game’s only goal in the second half when Alesandra Towle scored.

The Panthers finished the regular season with a 9-7-4 overall record and they were 5-5-2 in league play.

Men’s basketball

Marin 73, Solano 70

The Solano College men’s basketball team fell to host Marin 73-70 on Wednesday in Bay Valley Conference play.

The Falcons, who fell to 11-19 overall, 6-7 in the BVC, led 41-36 at halftime.

The Mariners (13-12, 7-7) were led by Jalen Chandler who had 15 points and 10 boards.

Solano hosts Alameda on Friday on Sophomore Night.

Youth sports

Club Solano Black takes third in Sac

Club Solano 12 Black volleyball team took 3rd place in Non-League action at the West Campus Tournament in Sacramento.

A strong serving attack from Alyssa Chopito (17 aces, 11 assists, 9 kills), Giyonna Little (eight aces, seven digs) and Caelin Gawiran (20 aces, five assists, six kills) led the way. Front court protection came from Sloane Chester (six digs, three kills) and Savannah Barrow (10 digs, four blocks, three kills).

Outside hitting came from Trisha Dionisio (10 aces, 22 digs, 10 kills), Dior Duru (four aces, two blocks, nine kills) and Anushka Nare (seven aces, 11 digs, three kills). Holding down the back row defense was Danae Gomez (two aces, 17 digs).

Vallejo PAL having sign-ups

Vallejo PAL will be having fastpitch softball and TBall sign-ups on Saturday from 10:30 a.m until noon at the PAL Office, 301 Wallace Ave.

T-Ball is open to boys and girls ages 4 to 7. Softball is open to girls ages 7 to 12.

Registrati­on fees are $100 with candy sales and $130 without candy sales.

Bring a child’s medical card or birth certificat­e for age verificati­on.
