SolTrans to host ceremony on Monday in downtown Vallejo
SolTrans is expanding in downtown Vallejo.
The transit authority announced that on Monday it will break ground on the York Street Improvement Project, which will expand the Vallejo Transit Center (VTC) east along York Street by adding five new bus stops and enhance the downtown streets cape between Sacramento Street and Marin Street.
“The project is intended to accommodate SolTrans’ expanding Local and SolanoExpress services, as well as, allow for expansion to accommodate additional transit partners,” the agency explained in a news release. “The new amenities will include five bus shelters, decorative and ornamental fencing and benches, trees and ornamental shade sails to complement the original transit center.”
Officials said construction will begins a week after the groundbreaking, and SolTrans services will detour around York Street. Riders may experience minor delays, but no stops will be missed. Construction is expected to last through the spring.
Once the project is completed SolTrans will be working with local artists on an art installation along York Street to tie in with the work artists are already doing in the downtown area, they added.
Funding from the expansion is coming from partnerships with California Transportation Commission, California State Transportation Agency, California Department of Transportation,
Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Solano Transportation Authority and the City of Vallejo.
SolTrans is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) that is governed by a six-member Board of Directors, composed of two representatives from the cities of Benicia and Vallejo, Solano County’s representative on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), and a representative from the Solano Transportation Authority.
The groundbreaking will take place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Monday, at VTC in the south parking lot along Sacramento Street. The public is welcome to attend.
