Council asked to approve contract for design services
The Vallejo City Council will be asked Tuesday to complete the next step in the process of converting a waterfront building into the new headquarters for the Vallejo Police Department.
City Hall is requesting to execute an agreement with the Davisbased Indigo Hammond + Playle Architects, LLP for $3 million to
provide architectural design services, including calculating final renovation cost estimates and the development of bid ready construction documents, staff said in a report to the council.
The not-to-exceed amount of $2,962,935 will be split into three different phases due to current funding availability, staff added.
They include phase 1, preliminary design — through completion of design development and 35 percent percent of the construction documents — costing the city $899,400. The second phase, construction documents — plans, specifications, and estimate (PS&E), permitting, and bidding assistance — for $1,334,900. The final phase will be construction support and will cost the city $728,635.
The seven-person council approved spending $13.4 million last February to purchase the twostory 60,000 square-foot building, which use to house State Farm Insurance at 400 Mare Island Way.
Costs have ranged between $10 to 20 million to renovate the building for police use — including installing a ballistic rated wall along most of the building. There are also plans to build a 2,400-square foot physical training building and a 7,175-square foot service building.
The city is proposing to include a vehicle sallyport, holding cells, locker rooms, community room, offices, and public entrance, among others.
The existing police building will be used for the Public Works Corporation yard functions, staff has previously said.
The Vallejo City Council will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday inside the Vallejo City Hall Council Chambers, 555 Santa Clara St.
