Benicia wrestlers advance to state

The Benicia High wrestling team had a few members of its team compete over the weekend at the North Coast Section tournament at James Logan High, and Basil Othman finished first to quality for the CIF State Championsh­ips in Bakersfiel­d.

Othman won the 138-pound weight class with all pins to advance to Bakersfiel­d. Miguel Acuna took sixth in the 113-pound weight class, while Brandon Martin came in eighth place in the 118-pound weight class. Acuna and Martin will not advance.

Bethel wrestlers each go 2-2

The Bethel High wrestling team had a trio of grapplers go 2-2 during the North Coast Section tournament over the weekend, but all three failed to advance to the state tournament.

The wrestlers were Dylan Delon, Anthony and Alexander Bonifacio.

Girls wrestling

Benicia grapplers advance to state

The Benicia High girls wrestling team had a few grapplers compete in the North Coast Section tournament at Albany High over the weekend and a few of them advanced to the state meet this weekend.

Mia Bonotan took second place, while Ella Tuttle captured third, Sonoma Arcilla took fourth and Chloe Chung took fifth place in their respective weight classes. All three have advanced to state.

Olivia Contreras came in sixth place, while Nia Cruz came in eighth place.

For the Bethel High girls team, Brendalyn Cunningham and Samantha Liu competed at the section tournament, but failed to advance to the state meet.

Girls basketball

St. Pat’s 60, Urban 32

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent

High girls basketball team defeated Urban of San Francisco, 60-32, on Saturday night in the second round of the North Coast Section Division IV playoffs.

The No. 2-seeded Bruins qualify for the Northern California State Playoffs with the win, but will play No. 3 Marin Catholic (24-5) in the semifinals at home on Wednesday. Marin Catholic defeated Fortuna 44-30 on Saturday in its quarterfin­al.

Leading the way for the Bruins (20-10) was Tameiya Sadler, who had 19 points. Kayla Revelo had 18 points. She had six 3-pointers.

Urban fell to 18-11 overall.

College softball

Falcons split twinbill with Lassen

The Solano College softball team split a doublehead­er with Lassen on Saturday as the Falcons won the opener 13-5 but lost the nightcap 14-4.

In the opener Hailey Enriquez was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Ari McIntyre was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, and Francesca Martinez was 2-for-3 with two runs. Cecily Kaluza was the winning pitcher as she went three innings and allowed seven hits and five runs, only three earned. She fanned two and did not walk a batter.

In the loss, Gabby Ibarra had a double and Gracie Alves was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Solano hosts Diablo Valley in a twinbill on Thursday.

Men’s basketball

Benedictin­e-Mesa 84, Cal Maritime 75

The Cal Maritime men’s basketball team lost at home to Benedictin­e-Mesa 84-75 on Saturday night in California Pacific Conference play.

Cal Maritime was unable to overcome an early 21 point deficit on what was Senior Day for the Keelhauler­s. Benedictin­eMesa

jumped on a 25-4 run after the game was tied at six a piece initiated from their senior guard Antowine Locke Jr. driving on the left side for a layup.

Cal Maritime trailed 4734 at the half, and never got to within seven points during the contest.

Zavier Lucero lead the Keelhauler­s in scoring for the 17th time this year, scoring 23 points on 9 of 19 shooting with a team-high 11 rebounds and finishing the season with 14 double doubles. Lucero ends the year averaging 19.54 points per game to finish second in the conference. Senior Ben Borja finished with 18 points.

Cal Maritime finished with an overall record of 20-8, including a 8-6 finish in conference play.

With all games final and the regular season wrapped up, the Keelhauler­s head to the Cal-Pac tournament in Lancaseter where they will be the No. 3 seed. Their tournament run kicks off on Saturday where they’ll be taking on the No. 2 seed UC Merced.

Women’s basketball

Benedictin­e-Mesa 69, Cal Maritime 39

The Cal Maritime women’s basketball team lost to Benedictin­e-Mesa 69-39 on Saturday in California Pacific Conference game.

The Keelhauler­s fell to 4-24 overall and 2-12 in the conference.

Valiceia Horne had 10 points for the Keelhauler­s, while Apollonia Ilalio had nine points of her own. Bethel High grad Elizabeth Martinez had seven rebounds.

Local golf

Gonzales shoots holein-one at Blue Rock

Blue Rock Springs was host to a hole-in-one on Sunday as Marlon Gonzales shot his first career ace in 20 years of playing the sport.

Gonzales made the holein-one on the east course’s second hole using a pitching wedge.
