District 1 candidates spend $40,000 over past month
The two candidates vying for the District 1 seat on the Solano County Board of Supervisors have spent nearly $40,000 on campaign literature and TV commercials since mid-January.
Robert McConnell, a member on the Vallejo City Council, spent over $23,000, with a bulk of that amount, $12,000, going toward the In the Public Interest for television airtime, according to the second pre-election report submitted to the Solano County Registrar of Voters.
His campaign further reported spending $9,128 to Assistance Plus for campaign mailers, and $500 to Marc Garman’s Lab Rat Pictures for media consulting and production.
Meanwhile, current incumbent Supervisor Erin Hannigan reported spending $16,379, with $7,612 being paid to Four Waters Media, Inc. for campaign consulting, walk pieces, and campaign paraphernalia.
The campaign also spent over $4,000 with Cornerstone Printing for postage and delivery.
While McConnell spent more money between Jan. 19 through Feb. 15, Hannigan received more cash contributions, raking in more than $10,000 as businesses and labor unions provided much of the funding.
Notable donations to Hannigan’s campaign, include $5,000 from the Service Employees International Union Local 1021, $1,000 each from the district Council of Iron Workers Political Action Committee Contributor Committee, and Teamsters Joint Council No. 7 — DRIVE Committee, $500 from the Napa-Solano Counties Central Labor Council AFL-CIO Committee on Political Education, and $750 from the Firefighters Local 1186 PAC.
The campaign also reported receiving $250 from Jack Anthony, chief financial officer of Jack Anthony Industries, $100 from Avery Greene, $250 from Republican Services, Inc., $100 from Security Enforcement Alliance, Inc., and $125 from Steve Bird for Dixon Mayor 2020.
Hannigan’s campaign further reported a late contribution outside the second pre-election filing period, to include $2,500 from MAS Property Holdings, Inc. A real estate company operated by Helen Pierson.
Prior to the MAS cash contribution, Hannigan’s campaign stated it had a cash balance of $30,994.
McConnell received $4,684 during the same month period, picking up $250 from former Vallejo Mayor Terry Curtola, $200 from Terry Rogers, and $100 from Liat Meitzenheimer, board aid to Solano County Supervisor Monica Brown.
His campaign reported a cash balance on Feb. 15 as $1,686.
McConnell was first elected to the council in 2011. He was sent back to the seven-person council in 2016. Due to city of Vallejo term limits, McConnell cannot seek another council term this year.
Hannigan was elected to the board of supervisors in 2012, receiving a second term in 2016. She served on the Vallejo City Council from 2007 to 2012.
District 1 covers all areas of Vallejo north of Georgia Street.
The election is Tuesday.
