Vallejo High baseball opens season with a win over Vacaville Christian

The Vallejo High School baseball team beat Vacaville Christian 9-1 on Friday in the 2020 season opener.

Carson Williams led the way with two hits, including a triple, and had two RBIs. Jaylyn Kelly had two hits — a single and double and drove in a run.

Jacarri Brown broke the game open in the third inning with a two-out, basesloade­d single that scored two runs. He finished the game 3-for-4 with three singles, three RBIs and two steals.

Kelly started on the mound and went four innings, not allowing a hit while fanning six and allowing one run. Williams worked two hitless innings and Antonio Orellano had one hitless inning.

Vaca Christian’s only run scored on infield error.

The Redhawks host Richmond on Monday.

Benicia 11, Wood 0

The Benicia High School baseball team downed Will C. Wood 11-0 on Friday in the 2020 season opener.

Shane Martin was 3-for-4 with a double and T.J. Valentine was 2-for-3 for Benicia. Jayshaun Wise had two RBIs while Devin Mason and Quinton Rivero both had doubles.

Richard Measley went five innings, allowing two hits and fanned two. The only hits came from Josh Petrill and Devin Copta-Vaughn.

Benicia hosts Deer Valley on Tuesday.

College baseball

Falcons lose two

The Solano College baseball team fell to L.A. Mission, 7-4 on Friday and 4-3 on Saturday.

On Friday, Jesse Rodriguez got the start and went six innings, allowing five hits and three runs. He struck out 10, walked one and did not figure in the decision. Herbie Lane took the loss in relief.

Brayden Huckaby was 2-for-3 with a double for Solano (3-12). Cameron Appling, Lane and George Hernandez had doubles.

Eli DeGuzman was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Falcons on Saturday. Solano tied the game with one in the top of the eighth.

Connor Caporale went 3 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs. He fanned two, walked two and did not earn a decision. Nate Mandrik suffered the loss in relief.

Solano is back in action on Tuesday against Mendocino.
