Evans sets Vallejo High record in triple jump
Vallejo High’s Sameerah Evans set a new girls school record in the triple jump on Saturday as she leaped 39 inches, 7 feet in the Viking Invitational in Stockton.
Evans also finished in first place in the 100 hurdles (14.77 seconds) and long jump (17-5). She also placed third in the 100-meter dash (12.90).
Angel Owens came in third place in the triple jump, while Bella Vidal was fifth in the triple jump.
In junior varsity girls competition the relay team of Lataya Bush, Talea White, Ja Chey Hunter and Amillion Hicks came in first place. White finished in first place in the 200 and second place in the 100.
In junior varsity boys, Xavier Maddalone came in first place in the high jump. Janny Maria came second place in the 800.
Bruin teams grab NorCal seeds
The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High boys and girls basketball teams received their seeds for the upcoming Northern California State Playoffs.
The Bruins boys team received a No. 2 seed in Division II and will host No. 15 San Ramon Valley of Danville in the first round on Tuesday at 8 p.m. The top seed in the division is Granada. If the Bruins win in the first round, they would play again on Thursday, likely against No. 7 St. Francis.
The Bruins girls team is a No. 4 seed in D-III and will host No. 13 Aragon of San Mateo in the first round at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The top seed in the division is Menlo-Atherton. With a win, the Bruins would host again on Thursday, possibly against No. 5 Woodside Priority.

Bethel 18, De Anza 1
The Bethel High School softball team beat De Anza 16-1 on Friday in the 2020 season opener as the Jaguars banged out 19 hits.
Teralyn Wimberly was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs at the plate and got the win in the circle with nine strikeouts and just one hit allowed in 4 2/3 innings. The only run allowed was unearned.
Taliah Ingram was 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, and Alexis Gomez was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs. Tiara Walker went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Avarie Mendez was 3-for-3 with two knocked in.
Alexia Combs was 2-for-4 and Tiara Walker blasted a triple.
Bethel is at Fairfield on Tuesday.
St. Joe’s 8, St. Pat’s 4
The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High baseball team fell to St. Joseph Notre Dame 8-4 on Saturday in nonleague play.
The Bruins trailed 5-1 after three.
Earlier in the week, St. Pat’s beat Justin-Siena 7-4.
The Bruins are back in action on Wednesday against El Cerrito.
UC Merced 77, Cal Maritime 65
Falcons split with Siskiyous
The No. 3-seeded Cal Maritime men’s basketball team fell to No. 2 UC Merced 77-65 on Saturday in the semifinals of the California Pacific Conference tournament in Lancaster.
The Keelhaulers (20-9) led 32-30 at halftime but the Bobcats (18-9) were the better team in the second half.
Vallejo’s Zavier Lucero finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds and four assists for Cal Maritime. Josh Hauser had 15 points, four 3-pointers, and added seven boards. Cetrick Yearnay had 11 points and Divine Nwoko had 10.
Jonah Cottrell had 18 point and Raphael Durr had 14 for Merced, which advanced to Monday’s championship game to take on top-seeded Antelope Valley (26-4), which beat No. 4 Simpson 95-61.
The Solano College softball team beat Siskiyous 10-4 and lost to Siskiyous 10-4 in a doubleheader on Saturday.
Hailey Enriquez was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Falcons. Danyelle Early was 3-for-4 with a double, two steals and three runs scored. Gracie Alves was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Gaby Ibarra was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Francesca Martinez also had a double.
Cecily Kaluza got the win as she went all seven innings, allowing eight hits and four runs, only one earned. She fanned eight and walked one.
Lyndsey Urricelqui and Enriquez both had two hits in the loss. Enriquez had a double, and Urricelqui had two steals.
Morgan Gant took the loss for the Falcons, who are 6-11 overall.
Solano hosts Los Medanos in a twinbill on Tuesday.
