Evans sets Vallejo High record in triple jump

Vallejo High’s Sameerah Evans set a new girls school record in the triple jump on Satur­day as she leaped 39 inches, 7 feet in the Vik­ing In­vi­ta­tional in Stock­ton.

Evans also fin­ished in first place in the 100 hur­dles (14.77 sec­onds) and long jump (17-5). She also placed third in the 100-me­ter dash (12.90).

An­gel Owens came in third place in the triple jump, while Bella Vi­dal was fifth in the triple jump.

In ju­nior var­sity girls com­pe­ti­tion the re­lay team of Lataya Bush, Talea White, Ja Chey Hunter and Amil­lion Hicks came in first place. White fin­ished in first place in the 200 and sec­ond place in the 100.

In ju­nior var­sity boys, Xavier Mad­dalone came in first place in the high jump. Janny Maria came sec­ond place in the 800.

Bas­ket­ball

Bruin teams grab NorCal seeds

The St. Pa­trick-St. Vin­cent High boys and girls bas­ket­ball teams re­ceived their seeds for the up­com­ing North­ern Cal­i­for­nia State Play­offs.

The Bru­ins boys team re­ceived a No. 2 seed in Di­vi­sion II and will host No. 15 San Ramon Val­ley of Danville in the first round on Tues­day at 8 p.m. The top seed in the di­vi­sion is Granada. If the Bru­ins win in the first round, they would play again on Thurs­day, likely against No. 7 St. Fran­cis.

The Bru­ins girls team is a No. 4 seed in D-III and will host No. 13 Aragon of San Ma­teo in the first round at 6 p.m. on Tues­day. The top seed in the di­vi­sion is Menlo-Ather­ton. With a win, the Bru­ins would host again on Thurs­day, pos­si­bly against No. 5 Wood­side Pri­or­ity.

Soft­ball

Bethel 18, De Anza 1

The Bethel High School soft­ball team beat De Anza 16-1 on Fri­day in the 2020 sea­son opener as the Jaguars banged out 19 hits.

Ter­a­lyn Wim­berly was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs at the plate and got the win in the cir­cle with nine strike­outs and just one hit al­lowed in 4 2/3 in­nings. The only run al­lowed was un­earned.

Taliah In­gram was 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, and Alexis Gomez was 3-for-4 with two dou­bles and four RBIs. Tiara Walker went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Avarie Mendez was 3-for-3 with two knocked in.

Alexia Combs was 2-for-4 and Tiara Walker blasted a triple.

Bethel is at Fair­field on Tues­day.

Base­ball

St. Joe’s 8, St. Pat’s 4

The St. Pa­trick-St. Vin­cent High base­ball team fell to St. Joseph Notre Dame 8-4 on Satur­day in non­league play.

The Bru­ins trailed 5-1 af­ter three.

Ear­lier in the week, St. Pat’s beat Justin-Siena 7-4.

The Bru­ins are back in ac­tion on Wed­nes­day against El Cer­rito.

Men’s Bas­ket­ball

UC Merced 77, Cal Mar­itime 65

Col­lege soft­ball

Fal­cons split with Siskiy­ous

The No. 3-seeded Cal Mar­itime men’s bas­ket­ball team fell to No. 2 UC Merced 77-65 on Satur­day in the semi­fi­nals of the Cal­i­for­nia Pa­cific Con­fer­ence tour­na­ment in Lan­caster.

The Keel­haulers (20-9) led 32-30 at half­time but the Bob­cats (18-9) were the bet­ter team in the sec­ond half.

Vallejo’s Zavier Lucero fin­ished with 15 points, 11 re­bounds and four as­sists for Cal Mar­itime. Josh Hauser had 15 points, four 3-point­ers, and added seven boards. Cet­rick Year­nay had 11 points and Di­vine Nwoko had 10.

Jonah Cot­trell had 18 point and Raphael Durr had 14 for Merced, which ad­vanced to Mon­day’s cham­pi­onship game to take on top-seeded An­te­lope Val­ley (26-4), which beat No. 4 Simp­son 95-61.

The Solano Col­lege soft­ball team beat Siskiy­ous 10-4 and lost to Siskiy­ous 10-4 in a dou­ble­header on Satur­day.

Hai­ley En­riquez was 3-for-3 with two dou­bles and two RBIs for the Fal­cons. Danyelle Early was 3-for-4 with a dou­ble, two steals and three runs scored. Gra­cie Alves was 2-for-4 with two dou­bles and two RBIs, and Gaby Ibarra was 2-for-3 with two dou­bles. Francesca Martinez also had a dou­ble.

Ce­cily Kaluza got the win as she went all seven in­nings, al­low­ing eight hits and four runs, only one earned. She fanned eight and walked one.

Lyn­d­sey Ur­ricelqui and En­riquez both had two hits in the loss. En­riquez had a dou­ble, and Ur­ricelqui had two steals.

Mor­gan Gant took the loss for the Fal­cons, who are 6-11 over­all.

Solano hosts Los Medanos in a twin­bill on Tues­day.
