Isom jumps closer to lead in supes race
The race for the Solano County Board of Supervisors’ 5th District has turned out to be a real nailbiter.
The latest round of votes that were posted Monday by the Solano County Registrar of Voters saw the narrative continue to repeat itself: Vacaville City Councilman Mitch Mashburn still led in the overall vote count but Fairfield-Suisun school board Trustee David Isom continued to chip away at it. Monday’s results saw Isom put perhaps the biggest dent in Mashburn’s lead, as Mashburn now leads by 185 votes. On Friday, he was leading by 255 votes. This change was largely due to the further counting of provisional ballots. As of Monday, Isom had received 56 percent of the provisional ballots in his favor compared to Mashburn’s 43 percent. A total of 347 provisional ballots in the 5th District
remain to be counted.
Isom also led Mashburn in Election Day voting 53 to 46 percent. However, Mashburn continued to lead in the vote-by-mail count 51 to 48 percent.
Overall, Mashburn continued to lead in the overall vote count 50 to 49 percent.
Both Mashburn and Isom are running to fill a seat being vacated by incumbent Supervisor Skip Thomson, who announced last summer that he would not seek re-election. The district consists of Rio Vista, a portion of the eastern part of Vacaville including the Elmira
area, a portion of the eastern section of Suisun City and the northern part of Fairfield. The winner will be sworn in during the Board of Supervisors’ first meeting in January.
The next round of results will be posted by the country registrar Tuesday afternoon. The Reporter will continue to provide updates as results come in. For full results, go to solanocounty.com/depts/ rov/default.asp and click on “Election Results.”
