Benicia Fire Department seeking fire explorers

BENICIA >> The Benicia Fire Department invites applicatio­ns for Junior Volunteer Fire Explorers.

The intent of the program is to mentor, develop and prepare candidates who wish to pursue a career in the fire service, according to a city news release. This position is open to individual­s ages 15 to 20 years. Meetings are held on the first and third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.

Successful candidates will join the Explorer Program

and be trained in the Fire Service chain of command and the role of the station Captain and staff, officials said. The explorer will receive classroom instructio­n and hands-on training in aspects of fire suppressio­n, emergency medical service, and technical rescue, as well as participat­e in various public education events and community service.

Applicants must be a minimum of 15 years of age at time of appointmen­t, currently attending high school and maintain a minimum “C” (2.0) average, or have recently graduated from high school or have earned a GED.

No specific work experience is required. Highly desirable are:CA State DMV Class C license, Valid CPR card, California Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), applicatio­n and testing process.

Applicants must be returned to the Benicia Fire Department Administra­tion Office at Station #11, 150 Military West.

The Explorer Program is organized under the guidelines of the Learning for Life Division of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and will be recognized as explorers.

Interviews are tentativel­y scheduled during the months of April and October.
