In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Solano County Library announced it would be closing all of its branches starting at 5 p.m. on Monday.

Branches will remain closed through March 31, officials said.

Book drops will stay open and late fees will not accrue during the period of closure, they added.

“Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep our staff and communities safe,” officials said in a news release.

Various community events continued to be canceled over the weekend and on Monday to stop the spread of the virus.

That includes a listening session for non-profits in Vallejo, put on by the Solano Community Foundation, set for Wednesday.

“We are at a critical moment with the COVID 19 emergency and we don’t want to provide an opportunity for our nonprofit partners to become infected,” said Lorene “Lori” Allio, director of strategic partnerships and advancement in a news release announcing the cancellation. “The Solano Community Foundation will follow up with Vallejo nonprofits with surveys and other non-face-to-face outreach in coming weeks.”

The Vallejo Police Department announced recently that it was postponing all events associated with its Youth Outreach Program scheduled for

March 20 and 24, respectively.

“The Police Department is committed to this significant engagement opportunity and will be working with event planners to secure an appropriate date in the near future,” said VPD Capt. Joseph Iacono in a department press release. “The City of Vallejo remains dedicated to promoting a healthy environment for our community and employees.”
