Water agency is hosting conservation video contest for teens and preteens
If the last decade has taught Californians anything, it is that conserving water is vital.
The Solano County Water Agency, in conjunction with local water utilities, is hosting a video contest for Solano County middle and high schoolers to raise awareness of saving water.
As an incentive, students and their teachers could win up to $1,500 in cash.
The 2021 Water Awareness Video Contest utilizes the popular social media hashtag #HowTo in an attempt to challenge students to create a stepby- step tutorial teaching viewers how to save water, according to an SCWA news release.
“This year’s topic is purposely broad so as to provide students with maximum flexibility to demonstrate water- sav ing tips with what they have on hand given challenges posed by the coronavirus emergency,” Andy Florendo, SCWA’s water conservation coordinator, said in a statement. “And, with national forecasts projecting warmer, drier weather conditions into the winter, the topic of water efficiency is especially timely.”
Judging will be based on the videos’ entertainment value and originality, videography, style and organization, audio/sound quality, movie content and accuracy. Winning students and their sponsoring teacher will receive cash prizes, and teachers can also win special incentive prizes for sponsoring multiple students.
The deadline to enter is 5 p.m. April 14. For more information, go to Scwa2. com/n or email Solanovideocontest@gmail.com.
