Mayoral candidate Hakeem Brown has written a lengthy post on his Facebook page conceding the election.

Embattled Vallejo City Councilmember and mayoral candidate Hakeem Brown has written a lengthy post on his Facebook page conceding the election and thanking his staff and supporters.

“I am humbled and grateful to all who voted for me to become mayor of the City of Vallejo.,” he said. “The trust that you showed in me and my campaign is overwhelming.”

Brown’s campaign for mayor was interrupted with allegations of repeated domestic abuse from past wife Joanna Cullum and allegations of abuse against a woman named Chana Brown which were cited through police records obtained by Open Vallejo and the San Francisco Chronicle.

Brown was convicted for an incident of domestic abuse in 2002, for inflicting corporal injury on Collum, for which he served a jail sentence.

He wished the incoming mayor Robert McConnell “nothing but success” and said that he would support “all efforts toward moving Vallejo forward” on behalf of the community.

McConnell won the election with 40.06 percent of the vote, followed by Brown who garnered 37.57 percent.

Brow n tha nked his mother, Thelma Brown, for supporting and guiding him through what became a contentious and controversial race, noting that he knew the experience had been a painful one for her.

“You have walked with me, prayed with me, and you know my truths,” he said.

Brown has repeatedly stated that he regrets his past and has channeled his new life into helping the Vallejo community, especially the youth. Before being elected to the city council, Brown oversaw many outreach programs directed at local youth.
