PG&E funds STEM scholarships

-

On the heels of National STEM/STEAM Day, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and The PG&E Corporation Foundation ( The Foundation) announced today that 150 STEM scholarships totaling $500,000 are being awarded to deserving students. Recipients include a diverse group of collegebound high schoolers, and current college and continuing education students in Northern and Central California. Scholarships are funded through PG&E’s Employee Resource Groups ( ERGs), Engineering Network Groups ( ENGs) and The Better Together STEM scholarship program of The Foundation.

The scholarships

are

awarded to help offset the cost of higher education. ERG scholarship winners will receive awards ranging from $1,000 to $6,000 for exemplary scholastic achievement and community leadership..

“This scholarship helps me, and my family, make this next step in my education and my future career possible,” said Manuel Anguiano, who is studying mechanical and aerospace engineering at UC Davis.

Trees planted on I-780

The first set of replacement trees on the I-780 has been planted by a core of volunteers. The vegetation permit which allowed this planting was obtained by the In Honor of Mother Earth Caltrans Adopters for litter pick up on the I-780 with the help of the Benicia Tree Foundation (“BTF”). On Nov. 7, volunteers planted 22 native trees.

In 2005, Caltrans removed 400 allegedly diseased eucaly ptus trees along the I-780. Most of these trees were along the stretch of the I-780 in

Vallejo. Caltrans indicated at that time that it would replant those trees as a separate project but never did.

Sponsors of the planting included Dennis Cullen of Cullens Pub, who transported the trees to the project site and Ray’s Tree Service, who provided the mulch. This grassroots event was organized by Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway volunteers, Sindy Harris and Steve Morgan, and the Benicia Tree Foundation.

NorthBay honored

NorthBay Healthcare is one of just a few physician organizations statewide to receive the 2020 Excellence in Healthcare Award from the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA) for top performance on clinical quality, patient experience and cost measures.

A key component of IHA’s statewide “Align, Measure,

Perform” (AMP) program, the award recognizes physician organizations that perform in the top 50 percent in all three major AMP areas: clinical quality, patient experience and total cost of care.

Of the nearly 200 physician organizations statewide participating in the AMP program, fewer than one in nine attained the Excellence in Healthcare Award performance standards for 2020, based on AMP results for measurement year 2019. The award was presented on Nov. 5 at IHA’s Annual Stakeholder meeting.
