VPD arrest home invasion suspect following pursuit

Man was also suspect in recent hit-and-run incident

The Vallejo Police Department have arrested a home invasion suspect after a pursuit in Vallejo on Wednesday morning.

At approximately 8:16 a.m., a Vallejo Police Patrol Officer was involved in a pursuit involving a stolen 2013 Silver Hyundai. The driver of the stolen vehicle, later identified as 24-yearold suspect Randy Saitz, failed to yield to lights and sirens by the officer.

Saitz was also the suspect who had escaped captured in the October 30, 2020 hit-and-run incident leaving two uninvolved citizens injured.

The suspect, Saitz, then fled on surface streets in East Vallejo before colliding into a Toyota 4 Runner with two occupants inside. While in pursuit, the officer swerved out of the way to avoid a collision before hitting a metal fence and coming to a stop. The officer suffered minor injuries with moderate front end damage to the police vehicle.

Subsequently, the suspect fled on foot and was observed by responding officers entering a nearby residence located on the 400 Block of Hilton Street. Upon entry, the suspect momentarily held the residents inside hostage with a loaded gun. Shortly after, the residents took action to defend themselves and disarmed the suspect, resulting in injury to the suspect.

Thereafter, a responding officer made entry to the home and proceeded to tase the suspect. Saitz was then taken into custody and transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

“This is a very frightening experience for this family,” Vallejo Chief of Police Shawny Williams stated in a news release. “I am very thankful for their courageous and swift actions in subduing this armed suspect with the assistance of the responding police officers. They should all be commended for removing a violent criminal from our community.”

The Vallejo PD Detective Division is investigating this case.
