Educator earns statewide honor

Susan Labrecque with the Solano County Office of Education has been named California’s Career Technical Education Administra­tor of the Year by the Associatio­n ofCaliforn­ia School Administra­tors (ACSA).

The ACSA’s award program, according to a press statement, “honors individual­s for their significan­t contributi­ons to education through outstandin­g performanc­e and achievemen­ts.”

Labrecque joined the SCOE in 1995 as a vocational specialist to support the employment needs of students with different abilities and is now the director of resource developmen­t andtransit­ion services.

She oversees Workforce Developmen­t and Career Technical Educationp­rograms and serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserves.

Labrecque, the statement reads,”was honored for having great passion for improving student outcomes for students of different abilities and out-of-school youth.

“Her expertise and leadership have been instrument­al in securing consistent funding for services and for creating increasing opportunit­ies for Solano County students. Her reputation for excellence, accountabi­lity and transparen­cy has been instrument­al in establishi­ng a rich network of partnershi­ps within Solano County and throughout the state.”

Solano County Superinten­dent of Schools Lisette Estrella-Henderson described the educator as “an inspiring woman who is a true advocate for students, and a tremendous partner for staff, SCOE and the U.S. Air Force.”

Labrecque was also recognized by ACSA for consistent­ly being committed to equity in student outcomes and educationa­l opportunit­ies.

She is “a strong advocate for students’ rights to quality instructio­n,” officials said, as well as “innovative in removing barriers for students.”

Labrecque, they continued, is simply outstandin­g.

“She is an exemplary leader for her team, for SCOE, the school districts, charters and agencies devoted to positive student outcomes in our community,” the statement concluded.
