Benicia wins showdown against College Park

The Benicia High School softball team won a tight game with visiting College Park, 8-4, on Tuesday in Diablo Athletic League play.

The Panthers (6-3, 4-2) scored three in the first inning and then broke it open with a three-run sixth. The Vikings, ranked No. 6 by Bay Area News Group, dropped to 6-2 overall, 5-1 in the DAL.

The game was just 3-1 heading to the fifth inning.

Lorenzza Marcacci was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Hailey Weddington had two doubles and two RBIs for Benicia. Bailey Sample was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Braxton Brown had a double and two knocked in.

Robynn Balmediano and Ella Tuttle also had doubles. Benicia had 11 hits and seven doubles.

Brown went seven innings in the circle, scattering seven hits and five walks. She struck out three and allowed four runs, two earned.
