The Vallejo Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating 28-year-old homicide suspect Demark Anthony Bernstine, who is wanted in connection to a fatal shooting on July 14.

During the course of the investigation, Bernstine was positively identified as the suspect who shot and killed the 15-year-old victim from south Vallejo, a news release stated. Suspect Bernstine should be considered armed and dangerous and is currently on CDC Parole after being convicted of attempted murder in Contra Costa County, the same news release said.

An arrest warrant charging Bernstine with the juvenile’s murder has been issued by the Solano County District Attorney’s Office.

“This brazen act of violence occurred in broad daylight with numerous people present and children playing in the area,” Chief of Police Shawny K. Williams stated. “We must protect our youth and work together to end persistent cycles of generational trauma. We will not stop until justice is brought in this case.”

On July 14 at 5:52 p.m., Vallejo Police officers responded to reports of multiple shots fired in the 200 block of Maine Street in south Vallejo. Upon arrival, officers located a 15-year-old male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The juvenile victim was declared deceased at the scene by Vallejo Fire medical personnel.

At the scene of the incident, numerous people were seen running in the area immediately after the shooting. Several people were reportedly armed with handguns. In addition, two armed and uniformed complex security guards responded to the shooting and were shot at by alleged suspects(s). One of the security guards returned fire, and it has not yet been determined if the alleged suspect(s) were struck. The security guards were not injured, and there have been no additional reports of injuries

Anyone with information about Bernstine’s whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Craig Long at 707-648-4514 or Detective Brian Murphy at (707) 648-5430.
