Solano College women’s volleyball team remains unbeaten in league

Cal Maritime sees basketball squads both lose to Menlo

The Solano College women’s volleyball team stayed unbeaten in the Bay Valley Conference Wednesday after a 25-20, 25-21, 25-16 home win over Los Medanos.

“I am so very proud of this team; we had some adversity to overcome tonight and we met it head on,” said Falcons head coach Darla Williams. “LMC took a quick lead in the first set but we pushed forward and didn’t look back. We served solid, and the team played exceptiona­l tonight.”

Dani Rydjord led Solano (20-11, 13-0) with 14 kills, added five digs and serving 6-for-6. Mylei Moli added eight kills, served 20-for20 with five aces and added 10 digs.

Anaya Rodriguez chipped in six kills on zero errors, added nine digs and had 14 assists. Kailyn Kaiser had 13 digs and served 19-for-20 with an ace

Chris Rigney Cruz served 16-for-16 and added four kills. Sarah Elledge chipped in three kills and two blocks. Gina Garlick led at the net with three blocks and added two kills. Jeryn Baldonado had 14 assists and served 6-for-6 with an ace.

Women’s basketball

MENLO 93, CAL MARITIME 39 >> The Cal Maritime women’s basketball team lost to Menlo on Wednesday night at home 93-39. Cal Maritime fell to 0-3 with the loss.

Tuimaunei added another 10 points in Wednesday’s home opener.

Cal Maritime will now head to San Diego for its next pair of games, starting with Friday’s 11 a.m. non-conference matchup against San Diego Christian at the USK Sports Complex in San Marcos.

Men’s basketball MENLO 71, CAL MARITIME 57

Cal Maritime lost on the road to Menlo College on Wednesday night, falling 71-57.

The Keelhauler­s fell to 1-2 with the loss while Menlo remains undefeated at 5-0.

Trailing 37-35 at halftime of Wednesday’s road game at Menlo, the host Oaks extended their lead to 11 until Cal Maritime battled back and pulled within two.

What began with a pair of free throws and a layup from Braxton Adderly continued with an Amil Fields three, a free throw from Eric Figueroa and another basket from distance from Fields, which pulled the Keelhauler­s back within two with a little over nine minutes remaining.

As the game continued, the Oaks slowly started pulling away, ultimately returning its lead to double figures with just under three minutes left to play in a game that ended in their favor by a 71-57 score.

Cal Maritime will return to action right away since its next game will take place Thursday evening against Bethesda. Tipoff inside PEAC Main Gym.

Adderly, Eric Norton and Fields led the Keelhauler­s in scoring with 14, 11 and 10 points, respective­ly. Meanwhile, the Oaks’ Corey Le’aupepe led all players with 22 points.
