Solano College women’s volleyball team finishes BVC slate unbeaten

The Solano College women’s volleyball team concluded the Bay Valley Conference slate unbeaten Friday with a 25-15, 25-19, 25-16 win over host Mendocino.

The Falcons (21-11 overall) won the league crown for the fourth straight year, this time with a 14-0 mark.

Dani Rydjord led Solano with 14 kills, serving 6-for-6 with two aces. Mylie Moli added eight kills, served 11-for-11 with an ace.

Chris Rigney Cruz chipped in six kills and two blocks. Kailyn Kaiser had 16 digs and served 9-for-9 with three aces.

Anaya Rodriguez added four kills, 10 digs and 15 assists. Jeryn Baldonado served 7-for-7 with four aces, added two kills and 15 assists. Crystal Carroll added seven digs and served 4-for-4 with two aces.

Gina Garlick had three blocks and added four kills. Sarah Elledge added three blocks and three kills. Bryanna Lott chipped in with 1 block, but had several touches that put the ball for easier defense for the middle back.

“I am extremely proud of this team. We have been hit with challenges not only pertaining to COVID and reschedule­d matches but illnesses and injuries,” said head coach Darla Williams. “The team stuck together, played together and built great friendship­s along the way. We look forward to the next challenge in the playoffs.”

Solano will find out its playoff spot on Thursday.

Women’s Basketball

SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN 83, CAL MARITIME 58 >> The Cal

Maritime women’s basketball team lost to San Diego Christian on the road Friday morning 83-58 in a neutral-site game in San Marcos.

Trailing only by eight at the break, the Keelhauler­s were outscored by San Diego Christian 24-8 in the third period, which ultimately became the difference in this game since the Eagles outscored Cal Maritime by one point in the fourth quarter.

Alicia Porter led all Keelhauler­s with 14 points with Mele Tuimaunei and Alina Daffon added 10 points each.

On Saturday, Porter had a team-high 13 points and added 11 rebounds but the Keelhauler­s (0-5) lost to St. Katherine 89-58.

Kai Kraus scored 11 points and Mele Tuimaunei matched her teammate’s team-high rebound total by collecting another 11.at the USK Sports Complex in San Marcos.

With that result, Cal Maritime wraps up its weekend in San Diego with a 0-5 overall record with Saint Katherine continuing its season at 6-2. SOLANO 65, SISKIYOUS 50 >> The Solano College women’s basketball team ended a three-game losing streak with a 65-50 win over Siskiyous on Friday night.

The Falcons (2-3) next play on Thursday against Skyline in the Sky-Jag Tournament.

Men’s Basketball

SHASTA 83, SOLANO 70 >> The Solano College men’s basketball team lost to Shasta 83-70 Friday night at the Sierra College Sierra Tournament.

The Falcons (1-3) play on Monday at Sacramento City College.
