Suisun City fire probe continues into blaze that destroyed 2 homes
Suisun City fire investigators on Monday continued their probe into a three-alarm fire that destroyed two homes and threatened a third Sunday afternoon.
Acting Fire Chief Greg Renucci, confirming information posted on social media, said firefighters responded at 2:46 p.m. to the first report of a residential structure fire in the 500 block of Honker Lane.
Arriving on the scene, an engine crew saw two homes on fire with a third structure threatened, prompting the second and third alarms, said Renucci, adding that the blaze was fueled by gusty winds.
Both homes, each occupied at the time, were completely destroyed but the third was spared. There were no injuries to the occupants or firefighters.
During a brief interview Monday afternoon, Renucci said the Red Cross also was on the scene as the fire-suppression operation got underway, but he was unsure if the humanitarian organization provided emergency shelter and assistance to the displaced occupants.
He estimated that 32 firefighters and an estimated 12 firefighting vehicles arrived on the scene to provide mutual aid. Units from Fairfield, Vacaville, Vallejo, Travis Air Force Base, and the Montezuma Fire Protection District. Benicia fire personnel provided “cover” for the City of Suisun, noted Renucci.
Some 20,000 gallons of water were used to quell the flames but he was unsure of the wind speed, saying, “It was pretty windy and gusty.”
He did not estimate the homes' dollar losses, but information from zillow.com showed a home in the 500 block of Honker Lane sold last year for $560,000.
The fire investigation and its cause remain under investigation, he added.
Renucci especially wanted to credit the Suisun City Police Department and dispatchers from the department and the Solano County Sheriff's Office for their help during the fire.
