Brown and McCoy lead American Canyon track team at VVAL finals

American Canyon High junior Kennedy Brown broke the school's long jump record on Friday during the Vine Valley Athletic League finals.

Brown jumped 16 feet, 10 2/3 inches and broke Taylor Crowder's old record. She finished third in the varsity girls event overall.

Brown won the triple jump with a leap of 34-5 1/2 and was second in the 100 hurdles (18.18 seconds).

On the boys side, Alons McCoy had a stellar day, taking first in the 200 (22.49), 400 (53.22) and running a leg in two firstplace relays. The 4-by-100 relay team (45.01) also consisted of Xavier Lopez, Taurean Walker and John Quilon. The 4-by-400 relay team (3:42.26) also consisted of Brandon Ibe, Walker and Lopez.

Quilon also won the long jump (21-0).

American Canyon grabbed third place as a team in both varsity events. Justin-Siena won the girls title and Petaluma won the boys crown.

Jaguars star in TCAL meet

The Jesse Bethel track and field team had some standout performanc­es this week during a TriCounty

Athletic League meet at Corbus Field with Pinole Valley and Swett.

Jordan Ratchford won the 200 dash (24.08 seconds) and was second in the 400 (53.49) for the varsity boys. Carl Berry won the 800 (2:23.18), Bobby Craig won the 1,600 (6:14.71) and Jeremy Lemauu won the shot put (37-6).

On the girls side, Aimee Williams won the shot (30 feet, 5 inches) and Marriyah Brown won the discus (52-02). Jayla Gunn was second in the 100 (14.03) and 200 (30.44).

Redhawks star in TCAL meet

Several Vallejo High School track and field athletes had strong performanc­es Thursday during a Tri-County Athletic League meet with De Anza and Richmond.

The Vallejo girls won the 4-by-100 (54.80 seconds) and 4-by-400 (4:37.42) relays. The first relay consisted of Miziara Moore, Ashaunti Arriola, Tashanti Gordon and Marriana Davis. The second relay consisted of Davis, Arriola, Luna Contreras and Solei Nelson.

Individual­ly, Gordon won the 100 (14.31), Arriola won the 200 (27.64) and Davis won the 400 (1:05.27). Dominique

Lackey was first in the shot (23 feet) and Nyele Finley won the long jump (14-9).

For the boys, John Zeigler ran a leg in the winning 4-by-400 relay along with Jeffrey Holden, Desion Gray and De Shawn Prack (3:55.77). Holden won the 100 hurdles (16.20) and 300 hurdles (44.17). Zeigler was second in the 400 (54.20) and third in the 200 (23.76).

Baseball

Justin-Siena 12, American Canyon 3

The American Canyon High baseball team lost to Justin-Siena 12-3 on Friday in Vine Valley Athletic League play.

Mason Harris was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Julian Zapanta was 2-for-4 for the Wolves (1-21, 0-11). Everet Johnson had a homer and two RBIs for the Braves, who had a seven-run fifth inning.

Badminton

Vallejo 14, El Cerrito 3

The Vallejo High badminton team beat El Cerrito 14-3 on Friday and wrapped up the TriCounty Athletic League regular season title.

The Redhawks (11-1) picked up wins in girls singles from Valeria Guzman

(20-22, 21-19, 21-15); Jemima Wong (21-16, 2112) and Danica Sebastian (21-13, 21-13).

In boys singles, Ruben Dapikilla (21-11, 21-10); John Paul Gutierrez (21-16, 24-22); Reynard Nevada (21-13, 21-10) and Ricky Dumag Jr. (21-15, 21-12) all won.

The teams of Rachel Contreras/Guzman (18-21, 21-17, 21-14) and Chairelle Balmoja/Nasia Okungbowa (21-16, 21-16) were victorious.

In boys doubles, the team of Dumag Jr./John Rey Gawat won 21-10, 2114.

In mixed doubles, the team of Rodonel Escobar/ Rachell Ordonez won 1821, 21-18, 21-17. Kyle Mabasa and Cindy Yu won 21-10, 21-6.

College Baseball

Mendocino 16, Solano 2

The Solano College baseball team was blown out by host Mendocino 16-2 on Friday in the Bay Valley Conference finale.

Mendo (17-22-1, 10-11) broke the game open with a 10-run seventh inning. Adrian Villalobos had a homer and four RBIs to lead his team.

The Falcons (12-25, 9-12) were led by Victor Vega, who was 2-for-3 with a double.
