Benicia High baseball team edged by Acalanes

The Benicia High School baseball team dropped a 1-0 heartbreak­er to Acalanes on Tuesday in Diablo Athletic League play.

The Dons (14-7, 7-2) scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off against the Panthers (13-7, 5-4).

Ben Saitz went 6 2/3 innings, allowing five hits while fanning three and walking one.

At the plate, Saitz was 2-for-4. Hunter Coombs was 2-for-3.

The two teams face off on Thursday, this time at Benicia.

WOLVES GRAB FORFEIT WIN >> The American Canyon High softball team had a forfeit win over Justin-Siena on Tuesday in Vine Valley Athletic League play.

The Wolves are 17-5 overall, 7-1 in league play. They host Vintage on Thursday in a first-place battle and then conclude the regular season on Friday with a home game against Redwood.

The Panthers (15-5) beat Clayton Valley 6-3 on Tuesday to nearly lock up the Diablo Athletic League crown.

The top team in the poll is Granada (22-1), whose only loss came to Benicia.

St. Francis, Mitty, Livermore and Heritage take up the 2-5 slots.

Boys volleyball

PANTHERS WIN, JAGUARS, BRUINS OUSTED IN PLAYOFFS >> The No. 10-seeded Benicia High boys volleyball team upset No. 7 Arroyo of San Lorenzo 1425, 25-22, 25-20, 17-25, 1816 on Tuesday in the first round of the North Coast Section Division II playoffs.

The Panthers (14-10) advance to Thursday's next round at No. 2 De La Salle (20-8).

St. Patrick-St. Vincent fell to Contra Costa Christian 18-25, 25-23, 19-25, 2521, 15-9 on Tuesday in the first round of the North Coast Section Division IV playoffs.

The Bruins finished the season with a 9-11 record.

Jesse Bethel lost to visiting Tamalpais 25-14, 2523, 25-13 in the first round of the D-II playoffs.

The Jaguars finished 11-4 overall.
