Benicia blanks Berean to clinch share of crown

The Benicia High School beat visiting Berean Christian 11-0 on Tuesday on Senior Day and clinched at least a tie for the Diablo Athletic League crown.

The Panthers (17-6, 10-1), ranked No. 6 by Bay Area News Group, broke the game open with a five-run third inning against the Eagles (2-12, 0-11).

Hailey Weddington was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Benicia. Kaydence Kinder was 3-for-3 with a double. Bre Gomez had a triple and two RBIs. Lorenzza Marcacci was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs.

Braxton Brown (13-3) went all five innings, allowing two hits while fanning six and walking one.

Benicia concludes the regular season on Thursday with a game at Alhambra. The Panthers can clinch the league title outright with a win. They begin the North Coast Section playoffs next week.
