VPD investigates 3-car crash that kills one
The Vallejo Police Department are investigating a traffic collision Wednesday night in which a 25-year-old man died.
About 11:13 p.m., officers were driving in the 800 block of Sonoma Boulevard when they saw a vehicle fully engulfed in flames, with signs of a major accident. Officers saw someone trapped inside the driver's seat, a Thursday news release stated.
Officers attempted to put out the flames using fire extinguishers. Vallejo Fire later arrived on scene to extinguish the flames and open the vehicle to rescue the driver. Vallejo Police, Fire and medics worked together to remove the driver, who was transported to a local hospital. The driver later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital personnel.
Preliminary details indicate that the car was northbound on Sonoma Blvd. when it collided with a second car driving southbound. It then collided with a third vehicle also traveling northbound on Sonoma Blvd.
The first vehicle's passenger and the second car's driver suffered moderate to minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
No one in the third car was injured.
The Vallejo Police Department Traffic Division has taken over the investigation.
