Solano County Library Foundation is scheduled to host California Assembly Speaker Willie Brown Jr. at the Hilton Garden Inn on June 25 at a Juneteenth Cultural Literacy Experience entitled “African-Americans Migrating and Moving Forward.”

Brown is a practicing attorney and community leader and served over 31 years in the California State Assembly, spending 14 and half years as its Speaker. Afterward he served as the 41st mayor of San Francisco.

The afternoon event begins at 4 p.m. with original art viewings of the Great Migration depicted by artist David B. Graves, music by DW Edwards' Entertainm­ent, plus an array of African-American Cultural Literacy resources.

Evening presentati­ons include a VIP Reception by invitation, awarding of prizes to Juneteenth Children's Art Contest winners and a culturally Inspired African-American Dinner.

Cheryl Hurd, NBC Bay Area News Reporter is the host for the festive evening activities including:

• Harry Price, Mayor of Fairfield, Dr. Ashok Varma, M.D. Inspiratio­nal Presenter.

• Dr. Emerit Jones, M.D., of Kaiser Permanente Napa-Solano Area, the event's Presenting Sponsor.

• Special Guest Speaker Mr. B. Konard Jones, President, CEO of NorthBay Healthcare, a descendant of immigrants and Dr. Genea Brice, First Poet Laureate of Vallejo.

Brown will be introduced by Solano County Supervisor Erin Hannigan. Brown will begin by sharing commentari­es from his life as an immigrant, California Assembly Speaker, and Mayor of San Francisco. Later he will be in conversati­on with Hurd and will respond to questions about his career.
