The so-called second season, the playoffs, begin for a few local teams in softball and baseball this week.

The North Coast Section playoffs brackets were released on Sunday afternoon and the Benicia High softball and baseball teams made the cut, along with American Canyon softball and St. Patrick-St. Vincent High baseball. All games will start at 5 p.m.

The Benicia High softball team (18-6) is a No. 2 seed in the Division II bracket and will host Las Lomas (16-6) in the first round on Tuesday. The Panthers wrapped up the Diablo Athletic League crown last week.

Meanwhile, Benicia's old foe from the Solano County Athletic League days, American Canyon, is the No. 3 seed in the D-II bracket.

The Wolves (18-6) will host No. 14 Antioch (13-12) in the first round on Tuesday.

American Canyon, which took second in the Vine Valley Athletic League, beat Antioch 17-4 in March.

Benicia and American Canyon could possibly meet up in the semifinals of the tournament.

Livermore is the top seed in the D-II softball bracket.

The Benicia High baseball team (15-9) grabbed the No. 5 seed in the D-II bracket and will host No. 12 Northgate (9-15) on Wednesday.

The Panthers benefitted from a tough schedule in the

DAL.

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High baseball team (8-16) is the No. 12 seed in D-IV bracket and will travel to No. 5 Piedmont (18-8) on Wednesday. The Bruins were 5-5 in Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division play.
