-

Benicia School Board President Sheri Zada has announced her candidacy for re-election to the Benicia Unified School District Board of Trustees for District 1.

Zada has thus far has received the endorsement from the Benicia Teachers Association, Benicia Mayor Steve Young, Benicia ViceMayor Tom Campbell, Solano County Supervisor Monica Brown, City Council Candidates Terry Scott and Keri Birdseye, Solano County Board of Education Trustee for Area 3 Dana Dean, as well as the endorsement from her school board colleagues, Mark Maselli, Dr. Gethsemane Moss and CeCe Grubs.

As a school board member for the last four years and School Board President for the last two years, Zada believes leadership is about balance. First and foremost, to listen, to gather facts, consider all options and make the hard decisions that will be in the best interest of the all BUSD students, teachers, staff and community.

“The face of Benicia is changing; we are becoming a community of older adults while at the same time welcoming a new generation of diverse families ready for the best of what Benicia has to provide,” Zada said. “With changes, we must look at the needs and desires of our current and future students and families. I want to continue the progress and success our district has achieved. I am excited about the direction that our district is headed, with a strong focus on preparing our students for their future. It is important for us that we keep the education, safety and well-being of each student at the forefront of our decisions.”

Zada also said she believes a strong School Board sets rigorous expectations for accountability and transparency while maintaining campus safety and setting an overall respectful tone throughout our school system.
