Road closures lead to evacuation warning

- From staff reports

The Solano County Sheriff's Office has issued an evacuation warning for Gates Canyon Road, Vacaville above the 2.5-mile marker and Mix Canyon Road, Vacaville above the 1.2-mile marker due to hazardous road conditions caused by recent storms.

According to a news release issued Thursday afternoon, Solano County Resource Management engineers have determined both roads have experienced land slippage compromising their structural integrity. Gates Canyon Road has been closed to all traffic and Mix Canyon Road has been closed to traffic except for emergency vehicles since Jan. 13. Repair work is scheduled to begin Saturday.

Both roads will be closed to all traffic, including emergency vehicles, during this time. Mix Canyon Road is expected to be closed for about seven days and Gates Canyon Road is expected to be closed for about 30 days.

The evacuation warning is prompted by emergency responders being unable to access residents while both roads are closed, creating a potential threat to life and/ or property.

Residents in the affected area can choose to shelterin-place during this time or temporarily relocate; anyone choosing to relocate cannot tow trailers down the hill. Any residents unable to shelter-in-place or temporarily relocate due to hardship can contact the Solano County Office of Emergency Services by telephone at (707) 784-1600 or email at OES@SolanoCounty.com.
