Pizza Hut wins title for world's largest pizza

- By Deb Kiner pennlive.com

Pizza Hut and YouTube star, Airrack, set out earlier this week to prove that “No one `outPizzas' the Hut.”

The result was the Guinness World Records title as the World's Largest Pizza.

And it was a lot of pizza. It was so big it had to be baked in sections at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California.

Pizza Hut performed the stunt to celebrate the return of its “The Big New Yorker” pizza to restaurants nationwide for a limited time Wednesday for the first time in 24 years “after longstanding popular demand.” The extralarge pizza is 16 inches and features six “oversized, foldable slices with crispy crust and bold flavors including sweet marinara sauce and Parmesan oregano seasoning on top just like you would get at an authentic New York pizzeria.” Hut rewards members can get it early — Tuesday.

While The Big New Yorker may be an extra large pizza, it is not nearly as large as the recordbreaking Big New Yorker pizza built in Los Angeles on Jan. 18. That pizza, Pizza Hut said, had a surface area of 13,990 square feet.

“Thanks to my community, 2022 was a BIG year for our channel and I promised them that we'd break this record if they helped me hit 10 million subscribers on YouTube, so here we are delivering on that promise,” said Eric Decker, also known as Airrack.

Pizza Hut said it already holds a Guinness World Records title for the highest altitude pizza delivery on land. The pizza was delivered to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in 2016 at an altitude of 19,341 feet.

David Graves, president of Pizza Hut, said customers “have been begging” for the restaurant to bring back the Big New Yorker pizza for more than 20 years.

Pizza Hut said all of the record-setting pizza was donated to Los Angelesarea charities.
