Vallejo, Jesse Bethel High athletes star at track meet

Vallejo High held a TriCounty Athletic League track meet on Saturday and many local athletes did well.

For the girls, Gbemisola Jejeloye won both the 100- and 200-meter dash. Isabel Frias won the 400 for Vallejo. Celina Pete of Bethel came in second place in the 100, while Grayce Thompson of Bethel came in second in the 200.

Ximena Vargas of Bethel came in first place in the 800.

In the 100 hurdles, Tashanti Gordon of Vallejo came in first place with a time of 20.20 seconds. Gordon's teammate, Carmelita Murray came in second place with a time of 20.33.

Mariel Codilla won both the shot put and discus for the Redhawks.

The Vallejo 4-by-100 relay team of Daijah Winding, Marriana Davis, Solei Nelson and Jejeloye came in second place.

In the discuss, Jael Maldonado came in second place for Vallejo.

On the boys side, John Zeigler came in first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.78 seconds.

Jesse Bethel's Cameron Usher took first place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.60. Jordan Ratchford came in first place in the 400 for Bethel. Cassel Dixon of Bethel won the long jump.

Vallejo's Jeffrey Holden came in first in the 110 hurdles (15.75), while the Redhawks' 4-by-100 relay team of Holden, Ziegler, DeShawn Prack and Kaylan

Baker came in first place (44.89). That same group also won the 4-by400 race.

Holden won the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.34 seconds, while Julian Williams won the shot put and discus.

Javier Smith won the high jump for Vallejo.

Second-place finishes for the Vallejo boys include Ziegler in the 100, Prack in the 200 and Desion Gray in the 400.

Camron Hollingswo­rth came in second place in the 110 and 300 hurdles.
