Our dearly beloved Shannon passed away April 26, 2023 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Shannon Alma Bush Sims was born December 20, 1972 to parents Donald C Bush Sr. and Matlon L Glover Bush.

Shannon was a graduate of St Patrick-St Vincent High School in Vallejo where she excelled in French and English. She received her Bachelor's degree from UCLA, her master's degree from Georgetown University and the degree of doctor of philosophy in English from UC Riverside. Shannon worked as an adjunct professor at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and an English professor at El Camino College in Torrance and at Compton College.

As a child Shannon's passion was art and reading. Shannon was creative, kind, caring and compassionate. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, touring museums and watching old movies. During her high school years Shannon served as the Bruin mascot, member of the drill team, track team and member of the Black Student Union and French Club. Shannon was a member of Second Baptist Church and West Angeles COGIC.

Shannon was preceded in death by her father Donald Bush Sr., her grandparents, Rev Noel and Alma Glover, Frank and Archie Mae Bush. She is survived by her loving husband Troy Sims Sr. children Troy Sims Jr, Nathalie Sims, mother Matlon Handy, dearly beloved brother Donald Bush II (Cristina), beloved aunt Carolyn Jackson and a host of relatives and friends.

Shannon will be remembered for her kind compassionate sweet spirit and love for others.
