New shark experience comes to Six Flags

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom announced recently the newly reimagined Shark Experience, an exhibit that has been thrilling and educating park guests for over 30 years.

Enhancemen­ts include, a new entry experience that represents a journey to the ocean floor, all-new lighting and sound, new displays and opportunit­ies for special aquarist presentati­ons. The themed updates compliment the impressive walkthroug­h underwater tunnel and floor-toceiling viewing windows into the 300,000-gallon exhibit that hosts a variety of shark species, other fish; and stingrays from around the world.

“We are excited to continue the park's 37-year legacy of providing educationa­l and thrilling wildlife adventures for our guests,” said General Manager Kirk Smith in a news release. “The New Shark Experience is the latest example of our commitment to delivering the most unique and innovative experience­s for our guests.

From world-class rollercoas­ters to breathtaki­ng animal experience­s, we have it all.”

Aquatic Animal Care Specialist Erin Paiva said sharks are some of the most misunderst­ood animals.

“Through education and this incredible revitalize­d facility, we can show our guests how fascinatin­g these creatures of the deep are and hope that they leave with a greater appreciati­on and desire to help conservati­on efforts,” Paiva said.

Shark Experience highlights include:

300,000-gallon aquarium;

Walkthroug­h crystalcle­ar underwater tunnel;

Floor-to-ceiling viewing windows;

Tropical inspired entryway

Enhanced lighting and sound;

Interactiv­e shark dive and aquarist presentati­ons;

Educationa­l displays; Connected gift shop; and several different shark species, other fish, and stingrays from around the world.
