West Memphis man shot twice; FC Police Officers investigating

-

Forrest City Police are investigating a pair of shootings that occurred over the recent holiday period, including one that was reported this morning.

Officers were called to Forrest City Medical Center early today after Nakita Lewis, 25, of West Memphis was dropped off at the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.

Police said Lewis was shot twice in the right leg with one shot entering his right ankle and the other going through his right knee.

Lewis told police he was walking on Driftwood Street, headed to a the home of a female, when he was approached by three black males asking for his money. Lewis reportedly told officers he told the men he had $80 and asked if they wanted it, but they instead accused him of lying, saying he had more money. Lewis said when he turned to run away, he was shot twice and after being shot “played dead” on Driftwood, which is located in the Shadywood Subdivision in the southern portion of Forrest City.

When asked how he arrived at the hospital, Lewis told officers his “friend girls” had dropped him off.

However, nurses at the hospital told police a group of young males arrived at the facility in a white vehicle, possibly a Hyundai, “beating on the emergency entrance doors, forcing the doors open and dropped him off.”

Lewis was later transferred by ambulance to Baptist Hospital in North Little Rock, according to the report.

During the investigation, officers went to Driftwood where Lewis told them he was shot but could not find any blood splatter or shell casings, according to the report.

The investigation is continuing.

On Christmas Eve, officers investigated a shooting involving Gary Raheem Washington, 26, 421 Kittle Road, Forrest City, who was shot just after 8 p.m.

Before learning of the shooting, officers were called to an accident at 113 Arkansas Street where a vehicle, driven by Washington, reportedly struck a house, causing an undetermined amount of damage.

According to the report, video from a convenience store in the area of Arkansas and Division streets shows Washington getting into the vehicle and traveling on Arkansas Street before another vehicle pulls up to his vehicle’s passenger side.

Police reported finding 15 bullet holes in Washington’s crashed vehicle “from the rear, the passenger side and the front of the vehicle.” Two .40 caliber shell casings were also found on Arkansas Street.

Washington was reportedly struck four times – once in the right forearm and three times in the back – according to the report.

Police reported Washington told them he had been arguing over a female with the driver of a gold Tahoe, and that the driver of that vehicle allegedly shot at him the previous day.
