BOP: Inmate at Forrest City complex dies of Covid
The federal prison in Forrest City is reporting its first inmate death caused by the coronavirus.
According to a press release from the Federal Correctional Complex- Forrest City, inmate Sean McQuiddy, 54, died at a hospital on Saturday.
McQuiddy, who had been incarcerated at the Forrest City complex since July, was serving a life sentence for conspiracy with intent to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine, money laundering, convicted felon in possession of a handgun and aiding and abetting. He was sentenced in the Middle District of Tennessee.
FCC- FC officials report McQuiddy tested positive for Covid at the FCC-FC on Dec. 14, and was “immediately placed in medical isolation.”
On Dec. 17, McQuiddy was “evaluated by institution medical staff for pneumonia, and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation. On Dec. 19, his conditioned worsened and he was placed on a ventilator,” officials said in the press release.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, McQuiddy had long- term pre- existing medical conditions, which the CDC lists as risk factors for developing more severe Covid-19 disease.
The BOP reports 21 inmates and 26 staff members have tested positive for the virus at the medium complex in Forrest City. The report shows that 292 inmates have recovered from the virus at that facility along with five staff members.
No deaths have been repotted
by the BOP at the FCC-FC’s lowsecurity complex where 73 inmates have tested positive for the virus along with 25 staff members. At the low complex, the BOP reports 684 inmates have recovered from the illness along with four staff members.
The Arkansas Department of Health reports 23 people in St. Francis County have died from the virus. SFC has 3,003 cases of Covid- 19, with 240 of those considered active cases. There have been 2,740 recoveries and 26,807 tested for the illness.
