EACC presents Arkanas Arts Council’s Small Works on Paper touring exhibit

-

The East Arkansas Community College Gallery in Forrest City presents the Arkansas Arts Council’s touring exhibition, Small Works on Paper. The exhibit will run through Friday, Jan. 27.

The 2021 Small Works on Paper exhibition will feature 26 artists from across Arkansas. Thirty- eight works will be featured in this year’s exhibition that will travel to ten galleries throughout the state in a yearlong tour. This year’s exhibition will open at the EACC Gallery located in the Fine Arts Center. A virtual grand opening will be held on Friday, Jan. 15 at 7: 00 p. m. on the Arkansas Arts Council’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Now in its 34th year, the annual Small Works on Paper exhibition showcases artwork no larger than 18 x 24 inches by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online art gallery coordinated by the Arkansas Arts Council that showcases the artwork of Arkansas artists.

The selected work is chosen by an out- of- state juror, who also selects pieces for purchase awards. This year’s entries were juried by Judy Ledgerwood, professional artist and recently retired Professor of the Arts in the Art Theory and Practice department at Northwestern State University in Evanston, Illinois. Ledgerwood reviewed about 200 submitted artworks to pick out the 38 pieces included in this year’s Small Works on Paper exhibition. She also selected works to receive purchase awards. Purchase award winners receive the cash amount equivalent to the value of their selected works. Funded by entry fees, the purchase award pieces become part of the exhibition’s permanent collection.

The Arkansas Arts Council was established in 1966 to enable the state of Arkansas to receive funds from the National Endowment for the Arts.
