AAA selects regional, state tournament sites

The Arkansas Activities Associatio­n selected state and regional tournament sites for most all prep sports throughout the state during its winter board meeting held Thursday.

Morrilton will be the site for the Class 4A state basketball tournament in early March while Fayettevil­le will host the Class 6A state tournament. Hot Springs will host the Class 5A state tournament; Clinton was given the bid for the Class 3A state tournament; Melbourne will host the Class 2A state tournament and West Side Greer's Ferry was chosen to host the Class A state tournament

Schools selected to host the three Class 4A regional tournament­s include Blythevill­e hosting the Class 4A East Region, which would include Forrest City, should the Mustangs reach that point in the basketball season.

Ozark will host the Class 4A North Region and Star City earned the bid to host the 4A- South Regional.

Class 3A regional tournament bids were given to Manila and Bergman, for the Region 1 and Region 2 tournament­s, while the sites for the Region 3 and 4 tournament­s will be determined by the AAA, after no bids were made.

In Class 2A, Rector, Melbourne, Magazine and Caddo Hills were selected to host the four regionals.

Class A regional tournament­s were awarded to Izard County, Mount Vernon- Enola and Emerson while the Region 1 site did not receive any bids and will be determined later.

Jonesboro will host the Class 5A state baseball tournament, while Fort Smith gets the Class 6A state; Morrilton hosting Class 4A; Ashdown, Class 3A; Carlisle, Class 2A; and Izard County, Class 1A.

Brookland will host the Class 4A East Region baseball tournament.

Other regional baseball sites include Clinton, Class 3A Region 2; Tuckerman, Class 2A Central Region; Carlisle, Class 2A North Region; and Izard County, Class 1A Region 2.

Softball state tournament sites

were given to Cabot, Class 6A; Morrilton, Class 4A; Ashdown, Class 3A; Carlisle, Class 2A; and Izard County, Class 1A. No bid was received for 5A state softball.

Regional softball sites include Brookland, Class 4A East Region; Tuckerman, Class 2A Central Region; Carlisle, Class 2A North Region; and Izard County, Class 1A Region 2. No bid was received for the Class 3A Region 2 tournament.

State soccer sites include Springdale, Class 6A; Siloam Springs, Class 5A; and Harrison, Class 4A. No bid was received for Class 3A state soccer.

Only two track and field state sites were announced Thursday, Rogers Heritage for Class 6A and Prescott for Class 3A.

State swimming sites include Bentonvill­e, Class 6A; Russellvil­le, Class 5A; and Magnolia, Class 4A. The state wrestling tournament will be held in Little Rock.

State volleyball sites for next fall were also announced. Those include Fort Smith Northside, Class 6A; Marion, Class 5A; Shiloh Christian, Class 4A; Paris, Class 3A; and Quitman, Class 2A.
