- Fred Conley T-H Sports

There's a reason Little Rock Mills is ranked in multiple prep basketball polls. From top to bottom, The Comets have the size and they have the athleticism, They have showed it every game so far this season, beginning with a win over West Memphis on Nov. 12 as well as Fr iday's AAA Sportsmanship "mercy rule" 77- 34 victory over Forrest City in a game played at Mustang Arena.

Led by Caleb Allen's 28 points and six rebounds to fuel the latest 4A- 5 conference blowout win for Mills ( 9- 2, 4- 0). Jakari Livingston had 11 points, Javion Guy- King added 10 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds, and Joseph Bell chipped in with 9 points and 6 rebounds for the Comets.

Fr iday's loss keeps the Mustangs winless in the conference.

It was the fifth time for Forrest City and Mills to meet as members of the 4A- 5 conference and the fifth consecutive win for the Comets.

The Mustangs did their best to stay within a reasonable striking distance in the first half, staying within 17 points of the Comets at the half 36-19.

That changed in the second half and it didn't take long.

The Comets opened the third quarter with a 10- 0 run, pushing their lead to 46-19.

The Comets ushered in the 30-point "mercy rule' with 1:53 to play in the third quarter when they extended their lead to 5424. They ended the third frame with a 41-point lead 65-24.

With a continuous running clock for the entire fourth quarter, the Mustangs managed to hold the Comets to just 12 points in the frame while tossing in 10 of their own to set the final.

Lamarion Randle led the Mustangs with 10 points, including a pair of threes, while Kesean Washington finished with eight points, including two threes and Marcus Barnett added seven points.

Mills led 9- 0 to start the game before the Mustangs got on the board with a runner in the lane and followed that with a three to stay within 10 points at 15-5.

The Mustangs trimmed the Mills lead to eight points, 21-13 in the second quarter, which was as close as they would get for the remainder of the game.

Mills is coming off a pair of 28- game winning seasons ( 2018- 19 and 2019- 20) with a combined eight losses. The Comets have lost only one conference game dating back to the 2018- 19 season and own a 75- 6 conference mark over the past six seasons as well as an overall 158-32 mark.

The Forrest City Lady Mustangs shook off a season full of frustrations Friday night, picking up their first conference win of the season and dominating the Little Rock Mills Lady Comets 58-10.

Playing in your face, up close and personal defense, the Lady Mustangs (2-8 overall and 1- 3 conference) held Mills to just two points for the first three quarters and literally running away from the Lady Comets.

The two teams played the entire second half under the AAA Sportsmanship "mercy rule" using a continuous running clock.

Mills tied the game at 2- 2 early but did not score again until the start of the fourth quarter when they drained a three to get within 56-5.

Shmyira Brown led the Lady Mustangs with 16 points. The Lady Mustangs finished with 11 players in the scoring column.

While no girl's scoring records were available, the twopoint first half by the Lady Comets may be the lowest point total scored by any girls team in a half since the Arkansas Activities Association began keeping records.

The Lady Mustangs will host Lonoke Tuesday night at Mustang Arena.
